[The airline's Oct. 20 announcement](https://news.alaskaair.com/destinations/alaska-hawaiian-airlines-expand-global-network-with-nonstop-service-connecting-seattle-with-osaka-papeete/) says both routes will run year-round. It also says no other airline flies nonstop from Seattle to either city.\n\nHawaiian Airlines will fly both routes with its Airbus A330-200 jets. Seattle to Osaka (Kansai, KIX) starts May 14, 2027, four times a week. Seattle to Papeete (PPT) starts June 11, 2027, three times a week. Both routes still need government approval, and the schedules can change.\n\nThe Papeete flight will be numbered AS987. The airline says that is a nod to French Polynesia's postal codes, which all start with 987.\n\n## The schedule\n\nAll times are local.","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"},{"role":"htmltable","html":"<table><tr><th>Flight</th><th>First flight</th><th>Days</th><th>Times</th></tr><tr><td>Seattle to Osaka</td><td>May 14, 2027</td><td>Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun</td><td>12:10 p.m. to 4 p.m. next day</td></tr><tr><td>Osaka to Seattle</td><td>May 15, 2027</td><td>Mon, Tue, Thu, Sat</td><td>6 p.m. to 12:20 p.m.</td></tr><tr><td>Seattle to Papeete</td><td>June 11, 2027</td><td>Wed, Fri, Sat</td><td>11:55 p.m. to 7:20 a.m. next day</td></tr><tr><td>Papeete to Seattle</td><td>June 12, 2027</td><td>Thu, Sat, Sun</td><td>5 p.m. to 6 a.m. next day</td></tr></table>","layout":"text"},{"role":"body","format":"markdown","text":"The Osaka return lands in Seattle around midday, which leaves room to connect to other West Coast and domestic flights the same day. The Tahiti flight is an overnight red-eye in both directions.\n\n## The $999 fare and the fine print\n\nTo mark the launch, the airline is selling round-trip Main Cabin fares from Seattle starting at $999 to Papeete and $1,199 to Osaka. The sale runs through Oct. 26. Seats at those prices are limited, and terms apply. Tickets are on sale at alaskaair.com and hawaiianairlines.com.\n\nThose are starting prices for trips that begin in Seattle. The sale ends more than six months before the first flights, so you need firm travel dates to use it.\n\n## What you get on board\n\nThe A330 has lie-flat business class seats, which the airline calls Suites. According to Alaska, Suites guests get a drink before takeoff, a mid-flight snack and multicourse meals with Asia-Pacific dishes. Suites and Premium Class guests also get amenity kits from the Hawaii brand Noho Home.\n\nAtmos Rewards members get free Starlink Wi-Fi, thanks to T-Mobile. The seatback system has nearly 200 movies and more than 500 TV shows.\n\nOne thing to know: Alaska says Hawaiian's A330s will get new interiors starting in 2028, including a full cabin retrofit and more modern premium seats. That means these routes will open with the current cabins, not the refreshed ones.\n\n## Lounges at each end\n\nIn Seattle, the airline says Suites guests get dedicated check-in and Alaska Lounge access. Lounge Frog lists three Alaska Lounges at SEA, in [Concourse C](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/sea-alaska-lounge-c), [Concourse D](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/sea-alaska-lounge-d) and the [N Concourse](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/sea-alaska-lounge-n). The N Concourse lounge is the highest rated of the three in our directory.\n\nThe announcement does not say which lounge Suites guests will use in Osaka or Papeete. It also does not cover lounge access for elite members flying in economy. We will update this story if the airline adds those details.\n\n## Why this matters\n\nThese are the eighth and ninth long-haul routes the combined airline has added from Seattle. They join London, Tokyo, Seoul, Rome and Reykjavík, plus [Athens and Paris, which start in 2027](https://www.loungefrog.com/news/alaska-airlines-seattle-athens-paris-nonstop-2027). Alaska's stated goal is at least 15 long-haul destinations from Seattle by 2030.\n\nTahiti is the bigger change for most U.S. travelers. Alaska says the new flight will give one-stop access from across the country, including some cities that now need two or more stops. It also says the airline will be the only U.S. carrier with same-day connections from Papeete to Bora Bora and Moorea. That can save a night in a Papeete hotel before you reach the island you came for. Through its partnership with Air Tahiti, the airline also plans same-day links to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.\n\nOsaka is a smart second city in Japan. It sits in the Kansai region, close to Kyoto, Nara and Kobe. The airline says these will be the only nonstop flights between Seattle and Kansai.\n\nHawaiian is not dropping its Honolulu flights. It has flown Honolulu to Osaka since 2011 and Honolulu to Papeete since 1987, and both routes will continue.\n\nOur view: four flights a week to Osaka and three to Tahiti is a measured bet, not a flood of seats. With fewer flights, a missed day can mean a long wait for the next one. Book with some slack in your plans, and grab the launch fares only if your dates are firm.","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"}]}
