A familiar card in the wallet is not enough to establish that the same lounge membership remains active.\n\nAmerican Express's [Global Lounge Collection terms for Australia](https://www.americanexpress.com/content/dam/amex/en-au/credit-cards/membership-benefits/the-platinum-card/travel/Terms-and-Conditions_The_American_Express_Global_Lounge_Collection.pdf) state that complimentary [Priority Pass](https://lounge-frog-api.onrender.com/api/v1/go/77243838-574a-4032-9c19-8ef6a86c5798?site=lounge) enrollment and access are available only to the primary Platinum cardholder from October 1, 2026. Complimentary memberships and access for additional cardholders end under that change.\n\n## Check the country and product first\n\nThis is an Australian product rule. It should not be generalized to every Platinum card issued around the world, or to every separate lounge network included with the account.\n\nA [Reddit discussion among Australian cardholders](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmexAus/comments/1urd2hf/priority_pass/) raised questions about the change. A [New Zealand discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/PersonalFinanceNZ/comments/1s89q6e/amex_platinum_charge_card_lounge_pp_changes/) also shows why country-specific terms matter. Similar card names can create confusion when people compare benefits across markets.\n\nThe issuer's terms, rather than another user's experience abroad, should determine the plan for your card.\n\n## A membership and a guest visit are different\n\nLosing an additional cardholder's own complimentary membership does not answer every question about accompanying the primary member. Guest access has separate conditions that need to be checked.\n\nAsk whether the primary member must be present, whether the guest visit is covered and what the lounge requires from each person. Do not assume that a guest arrangement lets an additional cardholder use the room independently.\n\nLikewise, a physical membership card that still looks valid is not proof that the underlying benefit is active. Confirm the account's current status with the provider before travel.\n\n## Avoid applying one change to every lounge\n\n[Priority Pass](https://lounge-frog-api.onrender.com/api/v1/go/77243838-574a-4032-9c19-8ef6a86c5798?site=lounge) is one access route. A card's wider lounge collection may include other networks with their own requirements. The October change should not be paraphrased as a universal loss of all lounge access unless the relevant terms support that conclusion.\n\nFor a specific airport, list the rooms you could use and the credential required for each. That makes it easier to distinguish an affected [Priority Pass](https://lounge-frog-api.onrender.com/api/v1/go/77243838-574a-4032-9c19-8ef6a86c5798?site=lounge) visit from a different eligible benefit.\n\nUse the full card name and issuing market when asking for help. It gives the provider enough information to answer the right question.\n\n## Decide what the remaining benefit is worth\n\nIf two people often travel separately, the change may affect the practical value they receive from the account. If they usually travel together, the guest terms may be more relevant. Work from your real trips rather than a headline lounge count.\n\nCompare any extra cost with the visits you expect to take. There is no need to buy another membership before checking the options already available on the itinerary.\n\nOur [Sydney airport guide](https://www.loungefrog.com/airports/syd) can help identify locations, but it does not replace card-specific eligibility. We reviewed the issuer's published change and selected original discussions on October 30.\n\nBefore the next departure, confirm whose membership is active, whether the planned guest arrangement works and which credential the exact lounge will accept. That is more reliable than assuming an additional card still carries last year's benefit.\n\n*Photo credit: [Maksym Kozlenko](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sydney_airport_-_International_terminal.jpg), [CC BY-SA 3.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/).
