From November 24, 2026, members of The British Airways Club will collect 6 Avios for every £1 spent on the full price of a package. Today, most of the reward comes only from the flight.\n\n## What changes on November 24\n\n[British Airways Holidays' announcement](https://mediacentre.britishairways.com/news/21102026/british-airways-holidays-updates-avios-proposition-rewarding-customers-with-six-avios-per-1-spent) sets out a simple new rule. The 6 Avios per £1 is worked out on the whole booking value, hotel and all. That total is then split evenly between everyone on the booking.\n\nEach Club member can take their share into their own account. Or a family can pool it in a Household Account, which British Airways says can hold up to seven people, children included. Tier points are still earned one person at a time.\n\nThe old system worked in two parts. Every traveler earned Avios on the flight portion of the package, at the normal rate for that fare. On top of that, the lead passenger alone got 1 bonus Avios per £1 spent on the package. Everyone else on the booking got the flight Avios and nothing more.\n\n## How big is the difference?\n\nBritish Airways Holidays gives one worked example. It is a package for two to Crete at £1,886 a person, or £3,772 in all.","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"},{"role":"htmltable","html":"<table><tr><th></th><th>Old rules</th><th>New rules</th></tr><tr><td>Lead traveler</td><td>5,462 Avios</td><td>11,316 Avios</td></tr><tr><td>Second traveler</td><td>1,690 Avios</td><td>11,316 Avios</td></tr><tr><td>Total</td><td>7,152 Avios</td><td>22,632 Avios</td></tr></table>","layout":"text"},{"role":"body","format":"markdown","text":"That is more than three times as many Avios for the same trip. The company points out that each traveler's share would cover a one-way off-peak economy reward flight to Paris, which it prices at 10,000 Avios plus £2.50.\n\nThe second traveler gains the most. Under the old rules, a partner or friend on the booking earned only flight Avios. Now they get an equal share of the whole package.\n\n## Who wins, and what we don't know\n\nOn a typical beach package in economy, the new rule looks far more generous. The hotel is often the larger part of the bill, and until now it earned Avios only for the lead passenger.\n\nThe release does not compare other kinds of trips, though. A long-haul package in Club World, for example, already earns a large flight reward. British Airways Holidays has not said how those bookings will fare under the flat rate. It is worth pricing one both ways if you have a premium trip in mind and can book before November 24.\n\nA few other details are not in the release:\n\n* whether the 6 Avios applies to taxes and fees, or only to the package price before them\n* what happens to the share of a traveler who is not a Club member\n* whether add-ons such as car hire and transfers count toward the total\n\n## Why it matters for points collectors\n\nUntil now, the hotel part of a package earned little for anyone but the lead passenger. British Airways says the change also brings Avios earning closer to how members already collect tier points. Andrew Flintham, managing director of British Airways Holidays, said a holiday \"should also help them build their balance towards whatever comes next.\"\n\nClub members can already use Avios to cut the price of a British Airways Holidays booking. Now both earning and spending scale with the full price of the trip.\n\nFor families, the Household Account is the key. Pooling seven shares into one balance makes a reward flight much easier to reach. British Airways' new [Avios-Only flights to Palma and Heraklion](https://www.loungefrog.com/news/british-airways-avios-only-flights-palma-heraklion-august-2027) for August 2027 are one place to spend them.\n\n## Lounge access is a separate question\n\nMore Avios do not bring lounge access. At Heathrow, entry to British Airways' [Galleries Club South](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/lhr-british-airways-galleries-club-south) and its sister lounges still depends on your cabin or your status. Club Europe and Club World tickets get you in, as do Silver and Gold status with the airline. The release does not announce any change to tier points, so do not expect this to speed up status.\n\nFor the full picture of the program, see our [British Airways Club page](https://www.loungefrog.com/programs/british-airways-club), the [British Airways airline page](https://www.loungefrog.com/airlines/ba) and our guide to [Heathrow's lounges](https://www.loungefrog.com/airports/lhr).","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"}]}
