The airline says it will put the Airbus A350 on its daily Durban service, flights EK775 and EK776, from March 1, 2027. That aircraft carries Premium Economy, which Emirates does not offer on the route today.\n\n[An Emirates Airbus A350, the aircraft due on the Dubai–Durban route from March 1, 2027](https://pub-fac99da959e344fe99d810d309cef7df.r2.dev/photos/article/bd999c75-840e-4c84-b952-5155cb0d7c3f/7d7edb5c2c68e143c392ded9ec74a163.jpg)\n[Premium Economy on the Emirates A350, laid out 2-4-2](https://pub-fac99da959e344fe99d810d309cef7df.r2.dev/photos/article/bd999c75-840e-4c84-b952-5155cb0d7c3f/1d5956809602a56fcf3d1a77c47017af.jpg)\n\nEmirates first brought Premium Economy to South Africa in September 2025, on flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg. According to [Emirates' announcement](https://www.emirates.com/media-centre/emirates-expands-premium-economy-to-durban-with-deployment-of-a350/), demand there has been strong from both leisure and business travelers. With Durban added, all three of the airline's South African gateways will offer the cabin.\n\n## What Premium Economy looks like on the A350\n\nThe A350's Premium Economy cabin is laid out 2-4-2. Emirates describes cream leather seats with more legroom and recline than economy, in-seat power, a small side table with a wood finish and a 13.3-inch screen.\n\nThe benefits start on the ground. At King Shaka International, Premium Economy travelers get their own check-in counter and priority boarding. The checked bag allowance is 35 kg, with 10 kg of carry-on.\n\nThe release does not mention lounge access for Premium Economy, so travelers should not count on it. For lounge access, Business Class or the right Skywards status is still the surer path.\n\n## Business and Economy on the same jet\n\nBusiness Class on Emirates' A350 is a 1-2-1 layout, so every seat has direct aisle access. The seats go fully flat and come with a personal minibar and wireless charging. There is a snack display at the back of the cabin.\n\nEconomy uses a sky blue, bronze and cream color scheme with lighter wood trim, high ceilings and mood lighting. Across the plane, the ice entertainment system has more than 6,500 channels, and travelers can pair their own Bluetooth headphones. Emirates says menus will have a regional slant, with South African wines in the mix.\n\n## Why it matters for Durban travelers\n\nDurban is a long trip from most of Emirates' network, and many travelers connect in Dubai. Emirates says a large share of Durban passengers go on to Thailand, Indonesia, India, France and the UK. With the A350 in place, they can book Premium Economy on the Durban leg, and then on onward flights where the cabin is offered.\n\nThe switch also changes what is possible at the Dubai end. Emirates operates huge Business and First lounges in Terminal 3, including the [Business Class Lounge in Concourse B](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/dxb-emirates-business-class-lounge-b) and the [First Class Lounge in Concourse A](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/dxb-emirates-first-class-lounge-a). Those remain tied to cabin and status, not to Premium Economy.\n\n## How Durban fits Emirates' A350 rollout\n\nDurban is one of several routes getting the A350 this season. Emirates has already moved the type onto flights to [Mauritius](https://www.loungefrog.com/news/emirates-a350-mauritius-premium-economy-november-2026) and to [Vietnam](https://www.loungefrog.com/news/emirates-a350-vietnam-hanoi-premium-economy-december-2026), each time adding Premium Economy along the way. For Durban's busy summer season before the switch, the airline has also added [extra holiday flights](https://www.loungefrog.com/news/emirates-durban-extra-holiday-flights-december-january-2026-27).\n\nThe A350 is a smaller jet than the 777 and A380 that anchor much of Emirates' long-haul network, which makes it easier to use on routes like Durban. Afzal Parambil, Emirates' regional manager for Southern Africa, said the airline looks forward to welcoming Durban travelers on board in the new year.\n\n## Before you book\n\nThe change starts March 1, 2027. Flights before that date stay on the current aircraft, so check the seat map when booking travel around the switch. If Premium Economy matters to you, look for the cabin in the fare options for March and later.\n\nSee our guides to [Emirates](https://www.loungefrog.com/airlines/ek) and [King Shaka International Airport](https://www.loungefrog.com/airports/dur) for more.","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"}]}
