For travelers in Alberta and the Rockies, it removes the usual connection in Toronto, Europe or the U.S. on the way to the Gulf, India and much of Asia and Africa.\n\n## The schedule\n\nEtihad flies the route four times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with a Boeing 787-9. The times are built around connections in Abu Dhabi:","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"},{"role":"htmltable","html":"<table><tr><th>Flight</th><th>Departs</th><th>Arrives</th></tr><tr><td>EY29</td><td>Abu Dhabi 2:25 a.m.</td><td>Calgary 7:00 a.m.</td></tr><tr><td>EY30</td><td>Calgary 1:00 p.m.</td><td>Abu Dhabi 12:55 p.m. next day</td></tr></table>","layout":"text"},{"role":"body","format":"markdown","text":"That is a change from the plan Calgary Airports and Etihad first [announced in January](https://www.visitcalgary.com/business/industry/news/calgary-announcements/etihad-airways-and-calgary-airports-launch-only-western-canadian-direct-route-to-the-united-arab-emirates). Back then the route was due to start on Nov. 3, with a morning departure from Abu Dhabi and an evening departure from Calgary. The launch moved up about a week, and the timetable flipped. The new afternoon departure from Calgary now lands in Abu Dhabi around midday.\n\n[See the route map on Lounge Frog](https://www.loungefrog.com/routes/ey-auh-yyc)\n\n## What's on board\n\nThe 787-9 has two cabins, Business and Economy. For its Chicago and Charlotte flights, Etihad lists 32 Business seats and 271 Economy seats on this type, though it has not published a seat count for the Calgary flight itself. Etihad flies three versions of the 787-9, and you can check the layouts on its [airline page](https://www.loungefrog.com/airlines/ey).\n\nBusiness has lie-flat seats with direct aisle access. Etihad has also tied a small detail to the launch. Its \"Destination Collection\" amenity kits for Business, made with LANEIGE skincare, come in city-themed designs, and Etihad said in May that the Calgary design would arrive in October 2026. There is no First class on this route.\n\nBy the published times, the eastbound flight takes just under 13 hours and the westbound flight about two and a half hours longer, so the cabin matters more than usual. Etihad Guest, the airline's own program, is the obvious place to look for award seats.\n\n## Where to wait in Abu Dhabi\n\nFlights to Calgary leave from Zayed International Airport, Etihad's hub. Business passengers there can use the [Etihad Business Lounge](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/auh-etihad-business-lounge) with a full bar and 18 shower rooms. Travelers connecting from a First class flight can use the [Etihad First Lounge](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/auh-etihad-first-lounge). The 2:25 a.m. departure is a real overnight flight, so plan on a late dinner and a shower in the lounge, then sleep on board.\n\nOur [Abu Dhabi airport page](https://www.loungefrog.com/airports/auh) lists every lounge in the terminal, with ratings.\n\n## Where to wait in Calgary\n\nFlights to Abu Dhabi leave from Calgary's [International Terminal](https://www.loungefrog.com/airports/yyc). Etihad has not said which lounge, if any, it will use for its Business guests in Calgary. It does not run its own lounge there.\n\nThe terminal's international side has the [Aspire Lounge (International)](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/yyc-aspire-lounge-international), which takes [Priority Pass](https://lounge-frog-api.onrender.com/api/v1/go/77243838-574a-4032-9c19-8ef6a86c5798?site=lounge), LoungeKey and DragonPass members. It has a full bar and two showers. There is also an [Aspire Lounge and WestJet Garden on the transborder side](https://www.loungefrog.com/lounges/yyc-aspire-lounge-and-westjet-garden-transborder), but that one serves U.S. flights. American Express has also opened a second Aspire Amex Lounge in Calgary, which we [covered here](https://www.loungefrog.com/news/aspire-amex-lounge-calgary-opens-montreal-transborder-2027).\n\nIf lounge access matters to you, ask Etihad which lounge it uses before you fly, or check your card's lounge network.\n\n## Why it matters\n\nBefore this route, Western Canadians heading to the Gulf usually connected through Toronto, a European hub or a U.S. gateway. A nonstop removes one stop from those trips, and for many trips to India and Southeast Asia it also cuts total travel time.\n\nAlberta's government and Calgary Airports both backed the route. Canada expanded its air transport agreement with the United Arab Emirates, which made it possible. Etihad also says it expects the flights to bring two-way tourism, and the airline's release points travelers from the Gulf toward Banff, Jasper and the Rockies.\n\nEtihad has not announced more frequent service. For now, with four flights a week, check which days work before you plan a trip around a connection.","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"}]}
