United

MileagePlus status

Premier status is earned on Premier Qualifying Points (PQP, from spend) and Premier Qualifying Flights (PQF) in a calendar year, with a small minimum of United or United Express flights. It runs through the following January. United is a Star Alliance founder, so Gold and up is Star Alliance Gold worldwide. Confirm the current year's thresholds on united.com.

No status lounge access. Lounge entry is by cabin, membership, or a card.

2.Premier Silver

Star Alliance Silver

How to earn it

About 5,000 PQP, or 4,000 PQP with 15 PQF.

What it gets you

Complimentary Economy Plus at check-in, a free checked bag, priority boarding, and a shot at upgrades after everyone above you.

At the lounge door

No lounge access from status. United Club needs a membership, a card, or an eligible Polaris ticket.

3.Premier Gold

Star Alliance Gold

How to earn it

About 10,000 PQP, or 8,000 PQP with 30 PQF.

What it gets you

Economy Plus at booking, two free bags, priority security and check-in, PlusPoints upgrades on longer routes.

At the lounge door

United Club and Star Alliance Gold lounges, with one guest, when flying a Star Alliance carrier on a same-day international itinerary; Star Gold lounges abroad on any Star Alliance flight. Not United Clubs on domestic-only trips.

4.Premier Platinum

About 15,000 PQP, or 12,000 PQP with 45 PQF.

What it gets you

Higher upgrade priority, more PlusPoints, three free bags, waived same-day change fees.

5.Premier 1K

About 22,000 PQP, or 18,000 PQP with 60 PQF.

What it gets you

Top published tier: first in line for upgrades, the most PlusPoints, a dedicated phone line, and Global Services consideration.
