I did the "several days but it's still just a layover" thing icelandair used to offer, it was great - the city is interesting but you don't get far before it's all "incompletely terraformed" in interesting ways. The only downside is that KEF is *terrible* domestic-side :-)

I flew three different airlines during my recent multi-city Europe trip, and they all did this too. Icelandair was the worst, as I discovered in the worst way that they didn't provide any meals for my transatlantic crossings and that they charge extra for normal-sized carry-ons.

I'll keep that in mind😀 Went there when Icelandair was offering stopovers if you were flying to Europe, can't remember details but it was the push I needed & I loved it there, from the little horses to the Blue Lagoon(although I will not get my hair wet next time, I needed a bottle of conditioner).

I am never, ever flying IcelandAir again. This may be one of the worst flying experiences of my life, and that's saying something.
