Delta's Sky Club at Denver International Airport has reached its full size. The lounge opened in March with part of its space, and the final phase is now complete, according to the Moodie Davitt Report's Airport Hospitality World, which logged the finish on October 3.
The finished club covers about 19,800 square feet and seats nearly 400 people. That is roughly 70% more seats than when it opened.
From 230 seats to almost 400
Delta opened the club on March 3 on the fourth level of Concourse A. At launch it had about 13,000 square feet and 230 seats. Delta said then that a 6,000-square-foot second phase would follow by the end of the year, taking the club past 19,000 square feet and 400 seats.
That second phase is the part that has now opened. Moodie Davitt lists what it adds:
- A second beverage station, so the coffee line is no longer at one spot.
- More seating across the new space.
- Extra work areas.
- Private phone booths. Delta's release describes a business area with printers and five soundproof booths.
- Larger back-of-house space for the kitchen and staff.
What the club is like
The design leans on Colorado. Delta's release describes wildflower motifs, jewel tones, live-edge wood and stone, plus work by local artists. The bar takes its cue from Denver's Union Station and old Denver taverns. There is also a media room with large TVs.
Food follows the seasons and uses regional produce. Delta named Olathe sweet corn, Palisade peaches and Rocky Ford melon, along with dishes like Chile Colorado. Two double-sided buffets handle the food. The bar added drinks such as an Elderflower Gin and Tonic and a Yuzu Margarita.
"This Delta Sky Club is one of our most thoughtful designs yet," said Claude Roussel, Delta's vice president of Sky Club and lounge experience, in the March release.
Where to find it
The Delta Sky Club in Denver is airside on Concourse A, up on level 4 on the north side of the center core. Take the escalators or elevator up from the concourse. The entrance is just past the pedestrian bridge from the main terminal.
Delta's gates at Denver International are on Concourse A, so the club is on your way for most Delta departures.
Who can get in
Standard Delta Sky Club rules apply. You need a same-day Delta or partner flight, and entry is limited to three hours before departure. Basic fares do not qualify. Amex Platinum and Delta Reserve cardholders have annual visit limits. Check Delta's Sky Club access page before you go, since these rules have changed often in the last two years.
Eligible SkyTeam Elite Plus members flying SkyTeam partners can also use the club under alliance rules.
Why the extra seats matter
Crowding has been a big problem at Sky Clubs. More cardholders, more premium flyers and a rising number of visits have led to lines at busy clubs. Denver is not a Delta hub, but winter brings busy ski-season departures. Adding about 170 seats before winter is good timing.
My take
This is the kind of lounge news I like best: a club that was already well reviewed simply got bigger. If you have a Delta flight out of Denver this winter, I would plan to use it. Just keep an eye on the three-hour rule if you arrive early for a ski-season departure.
