Amex's Boston Centurion Lounge is still years away: where its Boston, Charlotte and DFW plans stand

Boston's two-story lounge is due in 2029. A Charlotte Sidecar and a bigger DFW lounge are due in 2027. What's changed since April, and where to wait now.

Page updated October 2026.

Back in April, American Express laid out plans for three Centurion Lounge projects. Boston Logan gets a new lounge. Charlotte gets a second, smaller lounge. And the lounge at Dallas Fort Worth gets about 50% bigger. The plans were in an April 1 announcement that put the network at 32 lounges.

Six months later, none of the three has opened, and none was due to. Here is where each one stands, what Amex has announced since, and where cardholders can wait in the meantime.

Boston: two stories, a terrace, and a long wait

The Boston lounge will be in Terminal C. Amex says it will have two floors and an outdoor terrace, and it calls it one of the largest in the network. The design is meant to draw on Boston's history and coastal character, with local art. Amex expects it to open in 2029. It says more details will come closer to opening.

Amex did not give a size or a gate. View from the Wing reports it at about 20,000 square feet, near gate C10, with Massport building the core and shell. The blog also notes the date has slipped. When the airport authority approved the project, it was due in 2027. Massport later said 2028. Now it is 2029.

Ed Freni, Massport's executive director of aviation, said the authority is "excited to collaborate with American Express to start building the new Centurion Lounge in Terminal C."

Charlotte: a second Sidecar

Charlotte already has a Centurion Lounge. The new space will be a Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge, the smaller format Amex first opened in Las Vegas this March. It will be on Concourse A and is expected in 2027.

You order small plates, cocktails and wine with a QR code, and staff bring them to your seat. Amex also plans a Blue Roast coffee bar and private restrooms. Eligible cardholders can enter only within 90 minutes of departure. View from the Wing, citing airport lease papers, puts the space at 4,641 square feet.

To get a feel for it, look at the Las Vegas Sidecar. Our listing shows room for about 33 people and no showers. It is rated 3.8 out of 5 by Lounge Frog users. It scores well for drinks, service and Wi-Fi, but low for restrooms and workspace. It is a quick stop, not a place to spend a long layover.

Ted Kaplan, the airport's chief business and innovation officer, said Sidecar "is a welcome addition for passengers seeking a quick break with premium amenities."

DFW: about half again as big

The DFW Centurion Lounge sits in Terminal D, across from gate D12. Amex plans to make it about 50% larger, with more seats, a new dining area, a second full-service bar and a walk-up ice cream window. It expects the work to be done in 2027.

Other reports add detail Amex has not confirmed. View from the Wing says DFW's board approved a new lease in August 2025. It grows the space from about 12,000 square feet to 18,619 and runs to 2040. In July, Community Impact reported a $35 million project, citing a Texas filing with a finish date of Nov. 19, 2027.

Amex has not said whether the lounge will close, in part or in full, during the work. We have found no reports of closures so far. Our listing, last checked Sept. 30, shows it open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What Amex has announced since

Two things have happened since April. On Sept. 17, Amex opened its Amsterdam Schiphol lounge, the 33rd in the network. Then, on Oct. 8, it grew its Newark plans and added a Heathrow Terminal 5 lounge. That update also pushed Newark to 2027. It did not change the dates for Boston, Charlotte or DFW.

Where to wait today

Boston. There is no Amex lounge at Logan yet. A Platinum cardholder has a few options, based on our listings:

The Lufthansa lounge in Terminal E is no longer an option, since Amex lost Lufthansa lounge access on Oct. 1.

Charlotte. The Centurion Lounge sits on the mezzanine of the D/E connector, near gate D1. It rates 4.6, has one shower and opens 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. If you fly from Concourse A, where the Sidecar is going, The Club CLT near gate A21 takes Priority Pass and also rates 4.6.

DFW. The Centurion Lounge is the top-rated lounge at the airport in our data, at 4.9, with four showers. Also in Terminal D, The Club DFW near gate D27 takes Priority Pass and rates 4.3.

What we don't know yet

Amex has not given opening months for any of the three. It has not said whether DFW will stay open during the work, or given sizes for Boston and Charlotte. It also has not said whether Boston's 2029 date will hold. See the full rules on our Centurion program page, and every lounge at Boston, Charlotte and DFW.
