A long-running American Express perk has ended. As of October 1, 2026, Amex Platinum and Centurion cards no longer get you into Lufthansa lounges. Amex confirmed the change to travel media in April with a short statement: its cardmembers would lose access to Lufthansa lounges on that date, as One Mile at a Time reported.

Neither company has said why the deal ended.

What cardholders had

Amex's Global Lounge Collection used to include select Lufthansa lounges. The access applied when you flew a same-day flight on a Lufthansa Group airline. According to Amex's earlier terms:

  • Platinum Card members could use Lufthansa Business Lounges when flying any class, and Lufthansa Senator Lounges when flying business class.
  • Centurion members could use Lufthansa First Class, Senator and Business lounges, no matter what class they flew.

Lufthansa only has First Class lounges in Frankfurt and Munich. The separate First Class Terminal in Frankfurt was never part of the deal.

Earlier in 2026, the benefit had even grown. It extended to all Lufthansa Group airlines, not just Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian. That makes the cut more surprising.

What changes now

From October 1, holding an Amex card alone won't get you into any Lufthansa lounge. That includes the busy lounges at Lufthansa's two hubs:

It also covers Lufthansa's lounges outside Germany, like the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at JFK and at London Heathrow.

The biggest loss is for Centurion members. They used to be able to enjoy a First Class lounge, with restaurant dining, while flying economy within Europe.

How you can still get in

Lufthansa lounges still follow the airline's normal rules. You get in if you:

  • Fly business or first class on Lufthansa Group or another Star Alliance airline
  • Hold Miles & More Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status
  • Hold Star Alliance Gold status with another Star Alliance airline, such as United or Air Canada

See the full rules on our Lufthansa Business Lounge and Senator Lounge pages.

A few Lufthansa lounges outside Germany also take Priority Pass. Our directory lists Priority Pass access at the Lufthansa Business Lounge at JFK, for example. Since the Amex Platinum Card includes Priority Pass, you may still get in that way at those locations. Check the Priority Pass app before you go, since hours and rules can change.

What Amex cardholders still get

The Amex Platinum Card still includes a long list of lounges:

  • Centurion Lounges, including the newest one at Amsterdam Schiphol, which opened September 17
  • Priority Pass lounges
  • Plaza Premium lounges
  • Delta Sky Clubs, when flying Delta, with some limits

In Europe, the main Centurion options are now at London Heathrow and Amsterdam. If you connect through Frankfurt or Munich often, you may now need a Priority Pass lounge or a paid day pass.

Why it matters

Lufthansa's hub lounges are often crowded, especially when many flights from North America land at once. Some frequent flyers see the change as a way to free up seats for Lufthansa's own top customers.

For Amex cardholders, though, it's one more perk gone. Combined with Amex's tighter guest rules this summer, the Platinum Card now buys a little less lounge access than it did a year ago. See all Lufthansa lounges on our site.
