Australian Amex Platinum cuts Priority Pass for additional cardholders and trims Plaza Premium guests
The October 1 changes are now live. Additional cards lose Priority Pass membership, while Plaza Premium's free guest allowance drops to one.

Australian Amex Platinum households need a new lounge plan. Changes that took effect on October 1, 2026, removed complimentary Priority Pass membership for additional cardholders and reduced the free guest allowance at Plaza Premium lounges. The change matters most when family members or employees travel without the primary cardholder.
Amex sets out the rules on its Australian lounge updates page. Lounge Frog has updated the access notes for the Australian Platinum Card. Check the country that issued your card before applying these rules to a trip.
The extra Priority Pass membership is gone
Only primary cardmembers now qualify for complimentary Priority Pass enrollment through the affected cards. Existing additional and employee memberships ended after September 30. The primary member can still bring one complimentary guest per visit.
For couples, the practical loss is independent access. An additional cardholder who flies alone can no longer rely on the old membership. Traveling with the primary member may allow that person to enter as the guest, subject to the lounge's entry conditions.
Consider a household that takes separate flights home. It may have shared one card account while each traveler held a lounge membership. That arrangement needs to be checked again. A working digital card in an app should not be treated as proof that the issuer still pays for entry.
Plaza Premium allows one free guest
Australian Platinum Personal and Platinum Business cards now include one complimentary Plaza Premium guest instead of two. The same change applies to New Zealand Platinum Card Plus. Corporate Platinum keeps a two-guest allowance.
Eligible additional and employee cardmembers retain their own Plaza Premium access, with one guest under the updated policy. Losing Priority Pass membership therefore does not erase every lounge benefit attached to an additional card.
That distinction can help when planning a family trip. Count each person's own eligible card first. Then count the guests each card can admit. Do not assume that a lounge taking one network must honor all the benefits of another.
Read the dated terms
Some Amex marketing copy still describes the former nominated additional-member Priority Pass benefit. The airport lounge page includes the October 1 change in its detailed terms. Use those dated conditions rather than an older headline or travel guide.
The same card name can cover different benefits in different countries. A US Platinum review is not a reliable guide to an Australian account. Likewise, corporate rules should not be applied to a personal card simply because both carry Platinum branding.
Before your next departure
Check whether you are the primary or additional cardholder. Open your issuer's current lounge terms and look up the specific lounge you plan to visit. Confirm the entry method, guest allowance and any charges before presenting a membership.
If an additional member will travel alone, choose an alternative access route before reaching the airport. That might be a separate eligible membership, an airline cabin or status benefit, or a paid visit. Compare the actual visit cost rather than assuming another premium card is necessary.
Families should also check how the lounge counts children. One free adult guest does not answer every question about a child's admission. Each lounge and membership can have separate age rules.
These changes are already in force. The useful check now is who in your traveling party has access in their own name, and who needs to enter as a guest.
