You can now book the first trips on Holland America's made-over Oosterdam. The line has opened sales for five voyages that start on Oct. 31, 2027, after the ship comes out of a dry dock in Marseille, France. The first one sails from Rome to Trieste.

Holland America shared the news on Oct. 7, 2026, in its announcement. Oosterdam will be the first ship to finish Holland America Evolution, which the line calls the largest fleet investment in its 153-year history.

What changes on board

Evolution is a multiyear plan to bring features from the line's newest ships, the Pinnacle class, to its older ones. Oosterdam is a Vista class ship. It entered service in 2003 and carries about 1,960 guests, according to our Cruise Frog directory.

Holland America says the ship will get new kinds of cabins and suites:

  • Solo Verandahs, cabins built for one person, with a balcony
  • Bridgeview Suites, which face forward over the bow
  • Vista Suites
  • A redesigned Pinnacle Suite, the ship's top suite

Two public spaces are also on the list. Grand Dutch Café, a favorite on the Pinnacle class ships, will come aboard. The Ocean Bar will be redesigned. Holland America says other cabins and public areas will be refreshed too.

Solo cabins are the change to watch if you travel alone. Most cruise lines charge solo guests a large single supplement for a double cabin. A room built for one can cut that cost. Holland America has not shared how many Solo Verandahs Oosterdam will get, or their prices.

The line also has not given sizes for the new suites in this release. Nor has it said how many of each type there will be.

The first five voyages

The dry dock was moved up after what Holland America calls strong demand. Here are the five new trips:

  • Oct. 31, 2027: 10 days, Rome (Civitavecchia) to Trieste, Italy, with Pompeii, Sicily, Corfu, the Bay of Kotor and the Croatian coast
  • Nov. 10, 2027: 11 days, Trieste to Piraeus (Athens), with Croatia, the Greek Isles and Istanbul
  • Nov. 21, 2027: 7 days, Piraeus to Barcelona, with the Greek Isles and Malta
  • Nov. 28, 2027: 13 days, Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale, with stops in Spain and Gibraltar
  • Dec. 11, 2027: 11 days, round trip from Fort Lauderdale in the Caribbean

"Oosterdam marks the beginning of an exciting new era for our fleet," said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line.

What comes next for the fleet

Oosterdam is only the start. Holland America has said its sister ship Zuiderdam will follow in April 2028. The line is also adding a 12th ship, Arcadia, from P&O Cruises in 2029, as we covered in our story on the ship swap. Like Oosterdam, Arcadia is a Vista class ship, so it is a likely fit for the same changes.

If you want the new cabins soon, these five trips are the first chance. If you are happy with the old layout, the rest of the Vista class ships keep it for now.

Flying to the ship

The first voyage leaves from Civitavecchia, the cruise port for Rome. Most guests will land at Rome Fiumicino the day before. On the way home through Fiumicino, Priority Pass members can use the Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 3. Star Alliance travelers have the ITA Airways Piazza di Spagna Lounge.

The last two trips use Fort Lauderdale. At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, the Escape Lounge is the main option that doesn't depend on which airline you fly.
