SAS reports 87% on-time arrivals for August, topping Cirium's European ranking
The result covers August 2026. It is useful context for choosing an airline, with no guarantee for a particular flight.

SAS says it ranked first among European airlines in Cirium's August 2026 On-Time Performance report, with an on-time arrival rate of 87%. The airline published the result on September 8.
For travelers comparing connections, reliability is relevant alongside fare and schedule. A monthly network result is still a broad measure: it does not predict whether your particular flight will arrive on time or establish how much connection time you should allow.
The scope of the result
The SAS release says the August result was the carrier's eleventh first-place finish across European and global Cirium rankings over two years. It breaks that total into seven European and four global placements during 2025 and 2026.
That does not mean SAS ranked first globally in August. The specific August claim is first place in Europe, and the 87% figure is an on-time arrival rate.
The airline describes August as a demanding summer month with high traffic and busy airspace. It credits turnaround work, daily planning and coordination between teams for its operational performance. Those explanations are the airline's account of the result.
The release does not provide a route-by-route table, a cancellation breakdown or a prediction for the coming winter. It should not be used to rank two individual flights whose operating conditions may differ.
Use punctuality alongside the itinerary
A flight with a good departure time and a sensible connection may serve you better than one chosen only for an airline-wide score. Look at the whole trip, including the length of the airport transfer and the number of flights involved.
For a connection through Copenhagen, confirm the arrival and departure areas and any passport-control step. The same applies at Stockholm Arlanda and Oslo.
A monthly result cannot remove those steps or make a short connection longer. If the journey includes separately booked tickets, check what support applies if the first flight is late.
It is also useful to distinguish arrival performance from boarding convenience. A flight can arrive within the relevant on-time measure while still giving a connecting passenger little spare time.
Where a longer wait can be useful
For eligible travelers, the directory lists the SAS Lounge in Copenhagen, SAS Lounge in Stockholm and SAS Lounge in Oslo.
If the itinerary is domestic within Norway, check the separate SAS Domestic Lounge at Oslo. The right room depends on the actual departure area and the current entry rules.
Lounge access can make a planned buffer more comfortable. It does not replace enough time to clear formalities or reach the gate. Check guest eligibility and hours before counting on the visit.
What to compare before booking
Use the August result as one piece of recent operating history. Then compare the flight's current schedule, whether the journey is sold on one ticket and what alternatives exist later in the day.
For a time-sensitive event, consider arriving with a margin that fits the consequence of a delay. An airline's strong average cannot guarantee a meeting, cruise departure or separately booked connection.
The SAS airline page and SkyTeam lounge access guide cover other parts of the experience. Keep those product details separate from the punctuality statistic.
The reported August performance is a positive result for SAS. Its most useful role for a passenger is to inform a comparison, while the itinerary and booking conditions determine how resilient the actual trip will be.
