Air Transat is adding two new destinations for next summer. From June 2027 the Montreal-based leisure airline will fly from Montreal to Geneva and from Toronto to Birmingham, England. It will also add a Montreal–Faro route in Portugal and keep two Caribbean routes running all year. The airline set out the plan in its summer 2027 announcement on October 29.
The new routes and dates
All three new European routes are summer-only, and none of them is daily.
| Route | Weekly flights | Season |
|---|---|---|
| Montreal–Geneva | 2 (Tue, Sat) | June 19 – Oct. 23, 2027 |
| Toronto–Birmingham | 2 (Tue, Fri) | June 22 – Oct. 22, 2027 |
| Montreal–Faro | 1 (Mon) | June 14 – Oct. 25, 2027 |
Air Transat lists Geneva and Birmingham as new destinations in its summer network. Faro becomes the airline's third Portuguese city from Montreal, after Lisbon and Porto. The summer program also includes the Québec City flights to Lyon and Barcelona announced a day earlier. With those, Québec City gets five nonstop European cities next summer, alongside Paris, Marseille and Nantes.
Two sun routes also change. Québec City–Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic and Montreal–Saint-Martin were summer-only. Air Transat says both will now fly year-round, with a Monday flight to Puerto Plata and a Saturday flight to Saint-Martin in the summer months.
The release does not say which aircraft will fly the new routes. Air Transat's fleet is made up of Airbus A321LR, A321 and A330 jets, and each has its own seat map, so check which one is listed when you book. Fares and the exact flight times were not in the announcement either.
Why these two cities stand out
Geneva gives Quebec travelers a nonstop link to French-speaking Switzerland, Lake Geneva and the Alps on both sides of the border. A twice-weekly flight will not suit every schedule. Still, for a week-long summer trip it can save a change of planes in Paris or Zurich.
Birmingham is a different kind of play. It serves the Midlands and the Cotswolds, and it gives Toronto travelers a way into central England without starting in London.
Air Transat also points to its partnership with Porter Airlines. That lets travelers in other Canadian cities connect onto the new flights through Montreal or Toronto.
Where to wait before your flight
Air Transat does not have its own branded lounge at either hub in the Lounge Frog directory, so lounge access comes from cards and paid passes rather than from the ticket.
At Montréal-Trudeau, flights to Europe leave from the international area. Options there include the Aspire Lounge, which Priority Pass members can use, and the Desjardins Odyssée Lounge, which is open to DragonPass members.
At Toronto Pearson, Air Transat flies from Terminal 3. The Plaza Premium Lounge in the T3 international area is the main shared lounge there, open to Priority Pass and Plaza Premium members as well as paying guests.
On the way home, Geneva Airport has the Crystal Lounge by Aspire and two Marhaba lounges, both in Priority Pass. Birmingham Airport has a strong mix for a mid-sized airport, including Luxe by Aspire, Clubrooms and the Aspire Lounge South. In Faro, the ANA Lounge has non-Schengen and Schengen sides. Flights to Canada leave from the non-Schengen side.
What to watch
Low-frequency summer routes often change once sales data comes in. Some get a third weekly flight, and some are cut back. If you are planning around a Tuesday or Saturday departure to Geneva, book once the schedule is loaded and keep an eye on any time changes. For more on the airline, see our Air Transat page.
