Amex India's Platinum Travel lounge visits now depend on the previous quarter's spending

The October rule uses a ₹70,000 transition threshold for this quarter. Spending from October onward affects access in the next quarter.

American Express India's Platinum Travel card now links complimentary domestic lounge visits to spending in the previous calendar quarter. The distinction between the quarter you spend in and the quarter you travel in is the part most likely to catch a cardholder out.

The official product page says the change took effect October 1, 2026. Two complimentary visits per quarter depend on eligible prior-quarter spending. For October–December 2026 access, the transition threshold is ₹70,000 spent in July–September. From October–December spending onward, the threshold is ₹1 lakh per quarter.

This is the Indian Platinum Travel card

The rule belongs to this specific product and market. It should not be copied onto every American Express card carrying “Platinum” in its name.

Cardholders comparing advice online should check the issuing country and full card name before using it. A benefit described for a US Platinum card or an Indian Platinum charge card may be a different benefit entirely.

The change has prompted discussion on Reddit. That thread is useful evidence of cardholder reaction, but the issuer's current terms are the source for the access requirement.

Spending now does not repair the earlier quarter

The timing is important on an upcoming trip. October spending belongs to a different quarter from July–September spending. A traveler should not assume a large purchase today makes them eligible for a visit whose qualification period has already ended.

Check the eligible-spend total using the issuer's definition. A statement balance or total charged to the card may not be the same as qualifying spending after exclusions and adjustments.

If the app and your own records disagree, ask American Express to confirm the allowance before reaching the lounge. Keep the response tied to the quarter and the visit you intend to use.

Do not spend just to save an entry fee

Our advice is to compare the value of the visits with spending you would make anyway. Moving planned purchases may be a choice worth assessing. Buying something unnecessary solely to unlock a lounge can defeat the purpose.

For example, if you need an extra purchase to cross the threshold, count the full cost of that purchase against the benefit you expect to use. Do not treat it as free simply because it also earns rewards.

Any fees for making a payment by card should be included in that comparison. The existence of a threshold is not a recommendation to chase it.

Check the room as well as the allowance

Meeting the spending condition does not establish that every airport lounge participates. Use the issuer's current eligible-lounge information and match the departure terminal on your ticket.

For a group, confirm whose visits are covered and what anyone else would pay. Do not infer a family allowance from the cardholder's two visits.

Our Delhi airport guide provides location context, but the issuer remains the source for this card's benefit. We checked the product page and the original Reddit discussion on October 30.

The practical action is to verify the prior-quarter total, the remaining allowance and the specific lounge before travel. The change is already in force; its transition rule should not be mistaken for the ongoing ₹1 lakh threshold.
