Crystal Serenity is getting its biggest suite yet. Crystal says the ship will add a two-bedroom Crystal Owner's Suite and four new Junior Penthouse Premium Suites during a dry dock in 2028. The new rooms will be ready for guests sailing from May 5, 2028.
Crystal shared the plan in an announcement on Oct. 5, 2026. All five suites will sit on Deck 11, near the middle of the ship.
The Crystal Owner's Suite
The headline room measures 1,722 square feet inside, plus a 409-square-foot veranda. Crystal says naval architect and design historian Paolo Piccione led the design. Crystal says it builds on the Owner's Suite it created for its new ship, Crystal Grace.
Here is what Crystal says will be inside:
- A living room with a library and a fireplace
- A dining area with ocean views, a butler pantry and private bar service
- A main bedroom with a king bed and two large walk-in closets
- A marble bathroom with a Jacuzzi
- A second bedroom with its own walk-in closet and bathroom
- A hi-fi sound system that plays music inside and out, with touch panels in the living room and bedroom
- Technogym fitness equipment with personal coaching programs, set up to face the sea
Crystal says the floors will be wood, with custom wool carpets and handmade cabinets. The second bedroom is pitched at guests who want to bring family along.
Crystal did not share a price for the suite in its release.
Four new Junior Penthouse Premium Suites
The other four suites are smaller but still large by cruise ship standards. Each has 861 square feet inside and a 205-square-foot veranda. Crystal says the layouts are based on the Junior Penthouse suites on its sister ship, Crystal Symphony.
Crystal Serenity already has six Junior Penthouse Deluxe Suites. The new rooms will sit beside them and give guests more choice at that level.
"These new suites allow us to introduce fresh design elements and greater choice," said Bernie Leypold, Crystal's senior vice president of hotel operations.
What it means for travelers
Crystal Serenity is a small luxury ship by today's standards. It entered service in 2003 and carries about 740 guests, according to our Cruise Frog directory. That works out to a lot of room per guest, and these suites push the top end further.
If you book a top suite, a few things are still unclear. Crystal has not said what extra perks, if any, come with the Owner's Suite. It has not said which voyages from May 5, 2028, will have the new suites open for sale. It also has not said whether other parts of the ship will change in the same dry dock. If you want one of these rooms, ask Crystal or your travel advisor how to get on the list.
The timing lines up with Crystal's new-build plans. The line says Crystal Grace is under construction at Fincantieri and due in 2028, with sister ships to follow in 2031 and 2034. Adding big suites to Crystal Serenity helps the older ship keep pace with the new ones. For the ships arriving sooner, see our guide to new cruise ships due by the end of 2027.
A bit of background
Crystal is owned by A&K Travel Group, which bought the brand and its two ships in 2022. Crystal says both ships then went through a $170 million refurbishment. The line works with Abercrombie & Kent on shore trips.
Its ships offer Umi Uma, a restaurant by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and Beefbar. Crystal says its crew-to-guest ratio is close to one to one. The suite news builds on that pitch: fewer guests, more space and more staff for each of them.
Flying in for a Crystal cruise
Most luxury cruisers fly to the ship, and many book the trip's flights in a premium cabin. Lounge access can make the start of a long trip much easier. Before you fly, look up your departure airport on Lounge Frog to see which lounges your card or status gets you into.
To book, Crystal says to contact a travel advisor or call (800) 446-6620.
