Luxembourg finally has a nonstop link to the Gulf. Etihad Airways launched four weekly flights between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi on Oct. 21, 2026. The airline says it is the only nonstop service between Luxembourg and the UAE. It also makes Etihad the first airline from the Middle East to fly to Luxembourg.

The surprise is the plane. Etihad is not sending a big widebody. It is using the Airbus A321LR, a single-aisle jet. Yet that small jet still carries a full First cabin.

What is on board

Etihad's A321LR has three cabins. There are two First Suites, 14 Business seats and 144 Economy seats. That is 160 seats in all.

Two First Suites is a tiny cabin. On most flights, only two people in the whole plane will fly First. If you want one of those seats on a busy date, book early.

Both First and Business seats turn into fully flat beds. Every one of them has direct aisle access, so no one has to climb over a neighbor. Economy gets 4K touchscreens with hundreds of hours of films, TV and music. Etihad says high-speed Wi-Fi works in all three cabins.

How often it flies

The route runs four times a week. Etihad's inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi was EY51. It got a water cannon salute when it landed at Luxembourg Airport.

Etihad says demand has been strong since bookings opened in January 2026. It did not give load factors or fares in its release. Check etihad.com for the exact days and times before you plan a trip.

Why this route matters

Luxembourg is small, but its airport draws from a wider area. Alexander Flassak, the CEO of lux-Airport, said passengers come from across the Grand Duchy and from nearby Belgium, France and Germany. He said the new flight gives them a nonstop route to Abu Dhabi, with easy links to Asia and beyond.

From Zayed International Airport, Etihad connects to cities such as Phuket, Bangkok, Hanoi, Seoul, Tokyo, Sydney and Colombo. Now travelers from Luxembourg can reach Abu Dhabi without changing planes, then connect onward from there.

Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves said 2026 has been a year of strong network growth for the airline. He called Luxembourg a special addition and said Etihad is proud to offer its full three-cabin service from the very first flight.

The A321LR push

Luxembourg is not a one-off. Etihad says it is opening new routes across the Middle East, Europe, Africa and North America in 2026. Several of them use the A321LR. The airline says the jet brings its full three-cabin product, First Suites included, to more cities in Europe and Asia.

That matters for premium travelers. A narrow-body jet can serve a smaller city that could never fill a large widebody. It lets an airline sell lie-flat seats on routes that would not exist otherwise. Etihad says its network now covers more than 110 destinations, with a fleet of 130 aircraft.

Lounges and stopovers in Abu Dhabi

If you connect in Abu Dhabi, the lounges are a big part of the trip. Etihad runs a First Lounge and a Business Lounge at Zayed International, and both are open 24 hours. Check our guide to the best Abu Dhabi lounges to see how they compare.

Etihad also runs the Abu Dhabi Stopover offer. Eligible Etihad guests can add up to two free hotel nights to their trip. That turns a long connection into a short city break. Abu Dhabi has the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi and the new Zayed National Museum. Yas Island has Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld.

What it means for you

If you live in Luxembourg or nearby parts of Belgium, France or Germany, this route can save you a trip to a larger hub. If you are heading to Asia or Australia, it cuts out one leg of the journey. And if you want First Class, there are only two seats per flight, so do not wait long to book.
