A £195 Heathrow lounge that is not in the airport: DiamondAir opens an off-site VIP room with car transfers

DiamondAir's new lounge overlooks Heathrow's northern runway from an office building near Terminals 2 and 3. It is bookable only with the firm's meet-and-assist service, for a few dozen guests at a time.

Heathrow has a new premium lounge, and you cannot walk to it from a gate. Concierge firm DiamondAir opened the DiamondAir Lounge on October 1 at World Business Centre 3 on Newall Road, a business park overlooking the northern runway, with a cap of a few dozen guests at a time (Afar). Access works only as an add-on to DiamondAir's meet-and-assist service: the escort costs £145 per person, the lounge £195 plus VAT on top, and the firm then drives you to your terminal, with fast-track security and a buggy to the gate (Turning Left for Less).

What you get for the money

The lounge is small by design: à la carte dining with table service, a bar with champagne and cocktails, shower suites, massage treatments, meeting rooms and runway views. Transfers are quoted at under five minutes to Terminals 2 and 3, ten to Terminal 5 and fifteen to Terminal 4, and guests can leave as late as 50 minutes before departure. Arriving passengers can book it on its own for £195.

How it compares

At roughly £340 plus VAT for a departure, this sits between an ordinary pay-in lounge and Heathrow's private terminal, The Windsor, which starts above £4,000. For most travellers it is a lot to spend to avoid a terminal that already has decent options: the Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 2, Clubrooms in Terminal 3 and the Centurion Lounge in Terminal 3 all offer table service or close to it, and you can see your gate from them.

Our take

The product is the escort, not the lounge. If you were going to pay for meet-and-assist anyway, £195 for a quiet room with real food and a guaranteed seat is a reasonable upgrade. If you were not, nothing here beats a good airside lounge and an extra hour of sleep.
