Uganda Airlines flew its first passengers to Accra, Ghana, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The national carrier calls the new service "direct," but it is not nonstop. Every flight stops in Lagos, Nigeria, on the way there and on the way back.
The airline is selling the launch with round-trip fares from US$550, with terms and conditions attached, according to its own posts on X.
The schedule
The clearest details come from Ghana Airports Company, which runs Accra International Airport. In its welcome post, the airport operator lists the routing as Entebbe to Lagos to Accra, and then back through Lagos to Entebbe.
- Days: four flights a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays
- Arrival in Accra: 1:55 p.m.
- Departure from Accra: 7:00 p.m.
- First flight: Tuesday, October 27, 2026
The Uganda Tourism Board said the first flight was flagged off at Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday morning. Uganda Airlines marked the day with a post that read, "Uganda Airlines Launches Entebbe to Accra Flights."
The plane, and why it matters
Uganda's Nile Post reported that the route uses a Boeing 737-800 wet-leased from Ethiopian Airlines. In a wet lease, one airline rents both the plane and its crew from another. Uganda Airlines' own posts about the launch do not describe the cabin.
That is worth knowing before you pay for a premium seat. The cabin on this route is unlikely to match the Uganda Airlines business class shown on its website. Ask the airline what you are buying before you book a business fare.
Who this helps
Nile Post noted that travelers between Uganda and Ghana already had options, but on airlines that route them through Nairobi or Addis Ababa. The new flight keeps you on one airline from Entebbe to Accra, with one stop.
The paper also quoted Uganda Airlines' acting chief executive, Girma Wake, on the bigger plan. He said the airline is reworking its timetable so that its flights from London, Mumbai and Dubai connect to its African routes at Entebbe. He put it bluntly: "We were having flights that were coming from Bombay, Dubai, and London, connecting to nowhere."
If that works, Accra becomes one more city you can reach on a single Uganda Airlines ticket from those long-haul routes, with a change of planes at Entebbe.
More on the way
Accra is not the only new city. Uganda Airlines has also said it will start flights from Entebbe to Kigali, Rwanda, on November 18, 2026.
What the airline has not said
Some details travelers need are still missing from the official posts:
- Which fares the $550 deal covers, and until when
- Whether passengers can buy a ticket only between Lagos and Accra
- Which lounge, if any, premium passengers can use in Accra or Lagos
Check the airline's own booking page for the latest fares and rules before you buy.
My take
A $550 round trip between East and West Africa is a strong opening offer, and four flights a week is a real schedule, not a token one. But the word "direct" is doing a lot of work here. A stop in Lagos adds time on the ground in both directions. And a rented Ethiopian 737 is a different product from the airline's own planes.
For a traveler who just wants the cheapest trip from Entebbe to Accra on one ticket, this is worth a look. For a traveler who cares most about the cabin and the lounge, I would wait until Uganda Airlines says more about both.
