Germany, Austria and Switzerland are home to some of the best lounges in Europe. Munich and Frankfurt dominate the top of our overall rankings, and Zurich isn't far behind. This list is about ordinary rooms: crowded Priority Pass rooms in the secondary cities, a couple of tired airline lounges, and pay-in rooms that sit a few gates from something much better. Nothing here scores below 2.7.

How I picked them

I started from every lounge we track in the three countries and sorted by overall score. To qualify, a lounge had to be open and rated on at least 8 of our metrics. Minute Suites, sleep pods, spas and restaurant credits were excluded, though none of those would have ranked here anyway. Ties are broken by the weakest individual scores. One house rule shaped this list more than usual: every lounge on a ranked list needs a photo on its page, and many of the lowest-rated rooms in this region don't have one yet. I've named those further down, because some of them rate lower than anything on the numbered list. Scores are our editorial ratings, explained in the methodology.

Cologne Bonn: two rooms and nowhere else to go

1. The Lounge, Terminal 2 (2.7). This is a Global Lounge Network room in the old Air Berlin space opposite gate D50. It serves only non-Schengen departures from Terminal 2. Food scores a 1, the only 1 anywhere on this list, and drinks, coffee, service and restrooms each score 2. What it does have is quiet and decent apron views. A day pass is EUR 35 for up to four hours, and Priority Pass and DragonPass members get in free. There is no better option at Cologne Bonn. The airport's only other lounge is the Terminal 1 room below, which serves different departures and doesn't rate much higher.

4. The Lounge, Terminal 1 (2.9). Lufthansa no longer runs its own lounge at Cologne Bonn. What took over its two-level space near the C gates is a perfectly average room: almost every metric is a 3, with coffee and exclusivity at 2. As with Terminal 2, there's nothing better at the airport, so the Cologne leaderboard is a short read.

Düsseldorf and Hamburg: busy rooms with a better one nearby

2. DUS Sky Lounge (2.9). This is Düsseldorf Airport's own lounge on Pier C, after passport control, so it serves non-Schengen flights only. It used to be the Open Sky Lounge. It scores 2 on crowding, quiet, coffee, views and exclusivity, and the windows face the pier rather than the apron. Cleanliness, service, power and wifi all rate 4, so it's a working room, just a busy one. If your flight goes from the Schengen side, use the DUS Rhein Lounge on Pier B instead. It was rebuilt in 2026, has a terrace over the apron, takes Priority Pass and rates 3.7. On a non-Schengen departure, though, the Sky Lounge is the only Priority Pass option.

3. Lufthansa Business Lounge, Hamburg (2.9). This is the one airline lounge in the bottom five. It's small and L-shaped, with windows onto the car park, and it fills up badly in the morning peak. Crowding, quiet, power and views all score 2. The Senator Lounge is next door at gate A19, with a rooftop terrace and a 2022 refurbishment, and it rates 3.8. It needs Senator or Star Alliance Gold status, though. On a business-class ticket alone, you're stuck in the Business Lounge.

6. Hamburg Airport Lounge (3.1). This is the airport's own pay-in room in the Airport Plaza, furnished by BoConcept. It has apron views and a shower, and it's better than its rank suggests. Crowding (2) and exclusivity (2) pull it down, and walk-in entry costs EUR 47. Priority Pass holders have no alternative in Hamburg. For Lufthansa Senators and Star Alliance Gold members, the Senator Lounge at 3.8 is the better room.

Munich and Berlin: the wrong side of a good airport

5. Airport Lounge Europe, Munich (3.0). This lounge serves Schengen flights from Terminal 1. It's a plain room with a 2 for crowding, and online tickets cost EUR 52. Munich's other independent lounge, Airport Lounge World, opened in 2026 and rates 4.6, with two showers and room for 150. It takes the same Priority Pass, LoungeKey and DragonPass cards. The catch is that it sits in the non-Schengen A-gate area, so it only helps when you're flying outside Schengen. On a Schengen flight from Terminal 1, Lounge Europe is the only lounge those cards get you into.

10. BER Lounge Tegel (3.3). Tegel has a lot going for it: food and drinks rate 4, Feinkost Käfer does the catering, there's Paulaner on tap and a shower. It drops to tenth place because crowding scores 2. It's also the only Priority Pass lounge at BER, which helps explain the crowds. The airport's other pay-in room, BER Lounge Tempelhof at gate A20, rates 3.4, with 5 for views and a 4 for crowding. It doesn't take Priority Pass, but it does take DragonPass and sells day passes for EUR 48. On a Lufthansa ticket, the Business Lounge at B20 also rates 3.4.

Vienna and Stuttgart: hub lounges that rate low

7. Austrian Senator Lounge, F gates (3.1). It's unusual to see a Senator lounge at a hub on a list like this. The Schengen Senator Lounge in Vienna is rated on 10 metrics rather than the usual 14. Food and seating do well at 4, but views and workspace score 2. The trouble is that a Senator has nowhere better to go on the Schengen side. The Business Lounge next door rates lower on fewer metrics, and the HON Circle lounge needs HON Circle status. The airport's SKY Lounge rates 3.3 on only 7 metrics and takes Priority Pass, DragonPass, LoungeKey or EUR 49. For a Senator, that barely counts as an upgrade.

8. The Aviator Gallery, Stuttgart (3.2). This is Stuttgart Airport's own pay-in room in Terminal 3: 163 m², EUR 39 per person, and a two-hour limit. It has apron views and power that rates 5, but drinks and exclusivity score 2. Priority Pass doesn't work here; members use a separate lounge next door that we haven't rated properly yet. If you're flying Lufthansa or Star Alliance, the Lufthansa Business Lounge was renovated in 2025 and rates 3.6, and the Senator section rates 4.1. Both are in Terminal 1.

9. Austrian Business Lounge, G gates (3.2). This is the non-Schengen Business Lounge, rated on 10 metrics. It's quiet and uncrowded (both 4), and service scores 2. We haven't rated the non-Schengen Senator Lounge yet. That leaves the SKY Lounge before passport control (3.3) as the only alternative with a score, and you'd have to leave it early enough to clear the border. There isn't a clearly better room.

What didn't make the numbered list

Eleven lounges rate at or below this list's range but have no photo on the site yet, so they couldn't be ranked. Both Chill Out lounges in Hannover, the Karl-Jatho-Lounge and the Melli-Beese-Lounge, rate 2.6, joint lowest in the region on a full set of metrics. Hannover has no better Priority Pass room. Lufthansa passengers get the Lufthansa Lounge near gate A6, which rates 3.4. Geneva's Swissport Horizon Lounge also rates 2.6. The Crystal Lounge by Aspire, on the non-Schengen side of the same airport, takes the same Priority Pass and Aspire cards and rates 3.4. Nuremberg's Dürer Lounge is the only lounge at that airport and rates 2.7. The Lounge Leipzig/Halle rates 2.8 and has no restrooms inside. Geneva's two Marhaba lounges, the Bremen, Dresden and Münster/Osnabrück rooms and Salzburg's business lounge fill the rest of the gap, all between 2.9 and 3.2.

Without the photo rule, Hannover, Geneva, Nuremberg and Leipzig would take five of the top six places, and Switzerland would be on the list.

A few lounges score even lower but are rated on too few metrics to count. Zurich's marhaba Lounge, the VIENNA Lounge and Stuttgart's Priority Pass Lounge all show 2.0, and Vienna's D-gate Austrian Business Lounge shows 2.5, but none of them has more than two metrics rated. The same goes for Vienna's F-gate Business Lounge, which rates 2.8 on five metrics. Treat those scores as provisional.
