Air India and Singapore Airlines are loosening the rules on how they sell each other's flights. From Oct. 15, 2026, you can book an Air India flight between India and Singapore on the Singapore Airlines website, app or travel agent without adding a Singapore Airlines flight to the trip. The same goes the other way. The two airlines announced the change in a joint release on Oct. 7.

It is the first set of changes under a commercial agreement the carriers signed in January 2026. A second step, due in the second quarter of 2027, adds airport perks for frequent flyers.

What changes on Oct. 15

Today, an Air India codeshare flight sold by Singapore Airlines has to be part of an itinerary that also includes a flight Singapore Airlines operates itself. Air India works the same way. That rule goes away on Oct. 15 for eligible flights between the two countries.

The change covers 126 weekly flights between Singapore and eight Indian cities:

  • Ahmedabad
  • Bengaluru
  • Chennai
  • Delhi
  • Hyderabad
  • Kochi
  • Kolkata
  • Mumbai

In practice, this means more choice when you search one airline's site. If the Singapore Airlines flight from Chennai doesn't fit your day, the site can now offer you Air India's flight on the same route instead. You stay within one booking channel, and you may find a time that suits you better.

The airlines haven't said which fare classes count as "eligible," so check the operating carrier and fare rules before you buy.

Perks for frequent flyers from 2027

From the second quarter of 2027, members of Air India's Maharaja Club and Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer will get more recognition on each other's flights on eligible routes. These come on top of the Star Alliance benefits both programs already share. The airlines list two tiers:

  • Maharaja Club Platinum and KrisFlyer PPS Club: priority check-in and priority boarding, alongside the partner airline's own top-tier members.
  • Maharaja Club Silver and KrisFlyer Elite Silver: extra baggage allowance and priority boarding.

This builds on a change made in April 2026. That month the airlines widened the booking classes that earn miles on each other's flights and revised earn rates across all cabins.

"Demand for travel between Singapore and India remains strong," said Lee Lik Hsin, Singapore Airlines' chief commercial officer.

What about lounges?

The release does not mention lounge access, and nothing in it changes who gets into which lounge. Both airlines belong to Star Alliance, so the usual alliance rules still apply. Star Alliance Gold members can use partner lounges when flying either airline internationally. Silver members can't.

At the Singapore end, Singapore Airlines runs its own SilverKris lounges at Changi. Our members rate the SilverKris Business Lounge in Terminal 3 4.7 out of 5. In Delhi, Air India's Maharaja Lounge in Terminal 3 scores 4.6 and has a craft cocktail bar. See every option on our Singapore Changi, Delhi and Mumbai pages.

What else is coming

The airlines say they are also working on better schedule connections to cut layover times, new offers for corporate customers and other ways to make travel smoother. They gave no dates for any of these.

The two carriers already have a broad codeshare covering 77 destinations in 27 countries and territories. They connect through Air India's hubs in Delhi and Mumbai and through Singapore. For travelers between India and Singapore, the Oct. 15 change is the part you will notice first. The frequent-flyer perks follow next year.
