British Airways is gutting and rebuilding its lounge at Newark Liberty. The airline announced the $15 million project on July 1 as part of its 80th anniversary of flying to the U.S., according to the airline's announcement.
What changes at Newark
Gensler is designing the new space. Its look draws on the New Jersey shoreline and the state's industrial past, built with locally sourced materials and furniture. BA says it will include:
- a new full-service bar
- larger dining and food service areas
- a significantly upgraded Concorde dining space for eligible customers
- fully refurbished bathrooms and showers
- floor-to-ceiling windows facing the runway
Work was due to start later this year, and BA expects the lounge to reopen in 2027. The release doesn't say where passengers will wait during construction. In August, the French outlet Air Journal reported that the old lounge had already closed. If you're flying BA out of EWR this winter, check with the airline before counting on a lounge.
Boston and San Francisco next
BA has also set aside money for its Boston lounge and the Terraces Lounge in San Francisco, both in 2027. It hasn't released details for either yet.
All of this follows the airline's new lounge design, which first appeared in Miami and Dubai. BA says Heathrow is part of the same program.
