Lufthansa can make a trip feel special long before the aircraft leaves the gate. Its best features reward travelers who look closely at the airport, seat map and fare they are booking.
For Lufthansa, the appeal comes from a mix of thoughtful premium service and useful connections. After examining five of Delta’s strengths, here are five reasons to give Germany’s flag carrier serious consideration. These are our editorial picks, based on the products and rules available on October 14, 2026.
1. A First Class departure that starts in its own terminal
Frankfurt’s First Class Terminal makes the ground journey part of the attraction. A personal assistant helps with travel formalities and security. Guests can enjoy restaurant dining, private work spaces, daybeds and showers before a chauffeur takes them across the apron to their aircraft in a van or limousine. That coordinated experience is a compelling reason to arrive early. Lufthansa’s First Class Terminal guide
It is a treat for a narrow group of travelers. The access rules require a confirmed same-day First Class flight on Lufthansa, SWISS or Discover, or qualifying HON Circle membership with an eligible departing flight. Arriving passengers cannot use the terminal simply because they flew First Class. Current admission rules
Excellent lounges exist across the industry. What makes this experience stand out is the way Lufthansa brings dining, rest, assistance and boarding into one place.
2. Allegris lets travelers choose how they want to rest
A good business-class seat should suit the person sitting in it. Allegris takes that idea seriously. Its seat choices include extra privacy, extra space and a longer bed. Every Allegris Business seat has direct aisle access and its own heating and cooling controls. Tall travelers can look for the Extra Long Bed, which measures about 7 feet 2 inches. That is meaningful choice on an overnight flight. A traveler who feels too warm can adjust the seat climate; someone who values distance from the aisle can choose a Privacy Seat.
Check the aircraft and seat map carefully. Allegris is a rollout across selected aircraft, and layouts vary. Lufthansa’s March 16 announcement confirmed certification for 25 of the 28 Business seats on its Allegris Boeing 787-9s. Classic seat reservations remain free, while special seat types can cost extra. Certification and seat-reservation details
Rivals offer strong seats too. Allegris earns attention for the range of comfort choices within one cabin.
3. Express Rail makes the journey to Frankfurt part of the booking
Lufthansa’s partnership with Deutsche Bahn offers something especially useful for travel within Germany: a train connection to Frankfurt Airport booked with the flight. Express Rail includes a reserved train seat, coordinated check-in and a connection guarantee. If a delay breaks the connection, Lufthansa says it will rebook travelers onto the next flight or train automatically. Lufthansa Express Rail
Eligible tickets also include local public transportation through DB’s City-Ticket. That can make the first part of the journey easier, especially when it saves a separate booking or an extra flight.
The practical details matter. Passengers carry their own baggage on the train. From October 26, 2026, Frankfurt’s AiRail Terminal will close, and baggage drop-off will move to the regular terminal check-in areas. The connection guarantee remains.
Rail links elsewhere can be useful too. Lufthansa’s strength is how closely this service fits into the air journey. Book the specific Express Rail product and read its terms.
4. Two German hubs open up a wide range of journeys
Frankfurt and Munich give Lufthansa two substantial bases for connecting travelers. The airline’s summer 2026 schedule included added service to places such as Trondheim, São Paulo and Johannesburg, alongside higher frequencies on several long-haul routes. Those choices can help travelers find a route that fits their trip. Official summer schedule announcement
Star Alliance adds wider reach. The alliance welcomed ITA Airways in April 2026 and reported more than 1,150 destinations across its combined network. Those are alliance destinations, rather than places served by Lufthansa alone. Official membership announcement
The value depends on the route. Other alliance members share many benefits, and a nonstop flight may serve you better than a connection. The same summer schedule announcement also outlined fewer German feeder flights. Compare the whole itinerary, including the time allowed between flights.
5. Lounge benefits can make repeat travel more comfortable
Lufthansa’s lounge system offers useful benefits beyond its most exclusive terminal. Senators and qualifying Star Alliance Gold members can use Senator lounges with an eligible boarding pass. Frequent Travellers can use Business lounges on qualifying journeys, including some trips in economy. Lounge access rules
Frankfurt’s Welcome Lounge adds value after an eligible overnight arrival. Breakfast, showers, quiet areas and work stations can help travelers start their day feeling refreshed. Lufthansa lounge guide
Check the rules for each visit. Premium Economy alone does not include lounge entry, and Business Light fares exclude United Polaris access. Capacity and renovations can also affect the experience.
These five strengths make Lufthansa worth considering when the itinerary brings them together. The right flight can pair a comfortable seat with a useful rail connection, lounge access and a well-planned stop in Germany. That combination is the reason to look beyond the fare and study the full journey.
