Heathrow T5's Club Aspire closes Nov 2 for a No1 Lounge rebuild. Here is where to go instead

The main Priority Pass and day-pass lounge in BA's home terminal shuts on November 2 and reopens in early spring 2027 as a bigger No1 Lounge. Plaza Premium is the main fallback, but expect it to be busy.

If you use Priority Pass at Heathrow Terminal 5, mark November 2 on your calendar. That is the day Club Aspire, the main pay-in and card-access lounge in BA's home terminal, closes for a rebuild. It will not reopen until early spring 2027, and when it does it will carry a new name.

What is happening

According to Business Traveller, operator No1 Lounges will turn the space into a No1 Lounge, which it describes as its flagship in the UK. The lounge sits in T5A near gate A18.

The numbers are a real but modest upgrade:

  • Floor area grows from 4,680 sq ft to 5,995 sq ft, about 28% more.
  • Seats go from 139 to 152, which works out to roughly 16% more space per guest.
  • Power at 95% of seats.
  • Five named zones: The Pantry, The Orangery, The Greenhouse, The Lounge and The Library.

"This investment reflects both the demand we're seeing today and our ambitions for the future," managing director Sharon Jevans told Business Traveller.

Thirteen extra seats will not end crowding at peak times in a busy terminal. Still, more space per person and a socket at almost every seat address the everyday frustrations of a busy pay-in lounge. A full rebuild is a better bet than a light refresh.

Who loses out this winter

Today Club Aspire accepts Priority Pass, DragonPass and LoungeKey (capacity permitting) and sells day passes at £40 to £50, per Business Traveller. For travelers on BA without status, or on a lower fare in a terminal dominated by BA's own lounges, it is often the only realistic option.

If you booked a visit directly for a date after November 1, Business Traveller says you can take lounge credit or a full refund.

Where to go instead

Plaza Premium Lounge, T5A. This is the obvious substitute and the one Business Traveller points to, subject to availability. It is near gate A7 at the other end of the main concourse. It accepts Priority Pass, DragonPass and LoungeKey, and sells walk-in entry. Expect it to absorb much of Club Aspire's traffic and fill up at morning and early evening peaks. Our listing notes Priority Pass entry from 05:30 with a two-hour stay limit, so check the lounge's own page or your card app on the day.

BA Galleries lounges. These are open only to eligible passengers: BA or oneworld premium cabins and the right status levels. If you are close to oneworld Sapphire, this winter may be the time to get there. The Galleries Club South and North in T5A and the Galleries Club in T5B are the main options.

Terminal restaurants. For a short wait, a sit-down meal airside may beat queuing for a lounge with a capacity limit.

Practical steps:

  1. If you can pre-book Plaza Premium through your card program or directly, do so for peak departures.
  2. Check your card's lounge app the day before. Capacity rules can change without much notice.
  3. If you are departing from T5B or T5C, factor in the transit time to T5A before planning a lounge visit.

The bigger picture

T5 has long had too few independent lounges for its passenger numbers. Losing one of the two for four months or more will make that obvious. A larger No1 Lounge in spring is good news, but this winter, plan your T5 departures as if you might not get into a lounge at all.
