Who gets into an ITA Airways lounge
ITA Airways changed alliances in 2026, and its lounge rules changed with it. The airline left SkyTeam in 2025, joined Star Alliance on April 1, 2026 and adopted Lufthansa's Miles & More as its loyalty program. So today an ITA business class ticket gets you in, and so does any Miles & More elite tier, along with Star Alliance Gold status on a same-day Star Alliance flight. Guest rights depend on your tier. Holders of the ITA Airways Amex Platinum card get into some lounges too, and the two Rome lounges sell paid single-entry passes.
ITA has four lounges of its own, and all four have a photo on file, so this is the whole network. Three are in Rome and Milan; the fourth, in Catania, is there to make up the numbers.
1. ITA Airways Piazza di Spagna Lounge, Rome Fiumicino
The Piazza di Spagna Lounge is ITA's long-haul flagship and the highest-rated lounge in the network by a wide margin. It opened in 2022 in the non-Schengen boarding area E of Terminal 3, one level above gates E11 to E24, and it is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The room seats 283, has a full bar and one shower, and scores five on every metric except food and showers, which get four. Business passengers and Star Alliance Gold members get in on same-day flights, and anyone else can buy a pass. On an intercontinental ITA departure, this is where you want to be.
2. ITA Airways Runway Lounge, Milan Linate
The Runway Lounge reopened in 2025 after a rebuild, up the stairs past the boutiques in the Schengen area, with the non-Schengen gates directly below. It is 482 square meters with runway views, a staffed illy coffee and Campari bar, glass work booths and co-working desks, and it holds 125. Coffee, drinks, service, seating, views and workspace score five. Hot food is served only from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., which explains the three for food. Lufthansa Group business passengers and Miles & More elites use it too.
3. ITA Airways Hangar Lounge, Rome Fiumicino
The Hangar Lounge opened in 2023 on the upper level of the A pier in Terminal 1, serving Schengen and domestic flights, and it is open 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. It seats 205, has a full bar and one shower, and scores five for food, seating and crowding. Cleanliness, coffee, quiet, restrooms, power and Wi-Fi are a three, so it is a lounge for a short wait rather than a long one. Business passengers, Star Alliance Gold members and Miles & More status holders get in, and passes are sold.
4. ITA Airways Piazza Vincenzo Bellini Lounge, Catania
The Catania lounge is a 20-seat room before security, next to the Fast Track lane, with its own check-in counter. It is self-serve, has no showers and no view, and opened in 2023. Food, power and workspace score two and views score one. Reviewers give it credit for existing and not much else. It is for same-day ITA business passengers, Miles & More elites and ITA Amex cardholders, open 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. Use it to check in, have a coffee and go through security, not to linger.
Which one to pick on a connection
In Rome the terminal decides it: non-Schengen flights from Terminal 3 get the Piazza di Spagna Lounge, Schengen and domestic flights from Terminal 1 get the Hangar Lounge. If you are connecting from a domestic leg onto a long-haul flight, go through to Terminal 3 and spend your time there. In Milan, time your visit to the hot food windows. In Catania, the lounge is landside, so leave enough time to clear security after you have used it.
