SAS EuroBonus has won Airline Loyalty Program of the Year and Best Airline Elite Benefits for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at the 2026 Frequent Traveler Awards. SAS announced the results on October 12, following the October 7 ceremony in Chicago.
The awards are a vote-based recognition of the program. They do not introduce a new benefit or change the qualification rules for an existing tier. For travelers choosing where to credit a flight, the useful next step is to compare the benefits they can actually earn and use.
What SAS says won
According to the airline's release, more than three million ballots were cast in this year's awards. That is the event-wide voting figure, not a claim that three million people voted specifically for SAS.
The airline says EuroBonus has more than nine million members and offers ways to earn and use points through flights, hotels, everyday purchases and other services.
SAS also notes that SkyTeam won Airline Alliance of the Year and Best Airline Alliance Member Benefits. SAS joined that alliance in 2024. The airline's award and the alliance's award are separate results, even though the memberships connect in a traveler's journey.
An award can be a useful signal of member satisfaction. It does not tell you whether an award seat is available on a particular date or whether a specific redemption is good value.
Elite benefits depend on the tier
The release groups Silver, Gold and Diamond members together when discussing priority services, lounges, baggage and flexibility. That broad wording should not be read to mean that every tier receives every benefit.
Before planning a trip around status, consult the official SAS lounge information and your account's current benefits. The relevant questions include the member's tier, the operating airline, the flight date and any guest rules.
Lounge Frog's SkyTeam lounge access page provides a starting point for comparing the alliance side of the rules. The room you want to visit may still have conditions tied to a same-day itinerary.
A benefit that works for a frequent traveler flying alone can also work differently for a family. Check guests and companions separately from the main member's entry.
Match a benefit to a real airport
For a Scandinavian itinerary, the directory includes the SAS Lounge at Copenhagen, SAS Lounge at Stockholm Arlanda and SAS Lounge at Oslo.
Oslo also has a separate SAS Domestic Lounge. That distinction is useful when planning a connection: the lounge in the right airport may still be in the wrong part of it.
SAS has also announced a new Copenhagen lounge for June 2027. Treat that future project separately from the facilities available for an October 2026 trip.
How to judge the program for your travel
Start with where you fly, how often and with whom. A program's strongest benefits have limited practical value if they require a level of travel you will not reach.
Then compare the cost of earning status with the services you would otherwise buy. Include extra bags or a useful lounge visit only when your likely itinerary qualifies.
For points, look at actual award availability before shifting purchases toward a partner. The award announcement gives no new redemption chart, transfer ratio or guaranteed cash value.
The two wins recognize EuroBonus's existing program and elite offering. The practical value still comes from matching the current rules to flights you expect to take, rather than treating an award title as a promise of the same experience for every member.
