Same networks, different strings

Both cards are American Express products and both list Delta Sky Club and Centurion Lounge. The conditions are what differ. On the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business, both networks open only when you are flying Delta the same day. No Delta boarding pass, no lounge.

The Business Platinum Card puts the same-day Delta rule on Sky Club alone. Centurion access stands on its own. It then adds Priority Pass, Plaza Premium, and Escape Lounges, none of which the Delta card has.

What the fee gap buys

The Business Platinum costs $895 a year, the Delta Reserve Business $650. For a company whose travel is overwhelmingly Delta, especially through Delta hubs where Sky Club coverage is dense, the cheaper card does the job and the extra networks would go unused.

The moment itineraries stray, the Business Platinum takes over. A Centurion Lounge before a flight on another carrier, a Priority Pass lounge abroad, a Plaza Premium stop on a connection: each of those needs the pricier card. It is also the sensible pick for a business whose people fly a mix of airlines and want one card that works everywhere.

Write down your next three likely airports and count the lounges each card would open on the airline you actually book. The same-day boarding-pass rule governs most of the Delta card's value, so weigh it honestly.
