Three cards, three private lounge networks, one shared fallback. The Platinum Card costs $895 a year and unlocks Centurion, Plaza Premium, Escape Lounges and Priority Pass, plus Delta Sky Club when you fly Delta the same day. Sapphire Reserve is $795 and unlocks Sapphire Lounges, Sapphire Terrace and Priority Pass. Venture X is $395 and unlocks Capital One Lounges, Plaza Premium and Priority Pass. Those are the facts from the program pages. Everything below is about where they actually put you.
Three private networks, side by side
Amex's Centurion network is the oldest and, on this site's ratings, still the strongest at the top. The Centurion Lounge at DFW scores 4.9 across fourteen metrics, with 5s for food, coffee, showers, quiet and crowding. Atlanta, Denver and Heathrow Terminal 3 all sit at 4.8. The catch is the door policy. At the US locations, Platinum cardholders pay $50 per guest, $30 for children, unless they spend $75,000 a year. A same-day ticket is required, and Atlanta now insists guests be on the same flight.
Chase's Sapphire Lounge by The Club is younger and smaller, but the ratings are close. LaGuardia and Phoenix both rate 4.8, and JFK's lounge with Etihad rates 4.7 with four showers. Guest rules are the real differentiator: Sapphire Reserve brings two guests free, with further guests at $27 at LGA and PHX. No spend threshold, no same-flight rule in the data.
Capital One's network is the value play. JFK, Denver and DFW each score 4.7, and the JFK lounge is open 24 hours. Guests are $45 each, $25 for children, free with $75,000 annual spend, and day passes are sold when space allows. On a card that costs less than half of the other two, that is a strong result.
Where all three meet
Every one of these cards carries Priority Pass, so the long tail of independent lounges is common ground. The Club LAS (E) at Las Vegas Terminal 3 rates 4.8 and is a fair example. All three cards get you in, guests follow your card's allowance, and access may be limited between 16:00 and 22:00. What differs is how each card's Priority Pass membership treats non-lounge venues, and that detail is not in the directory, so read your own card's terms.
There is one Priority Pass wrinkle worth knowing. Sapphire Lounges also admit other Priority Pass members, but the recorded policy gives them a single free visit a year, then $27 at LGA and PHX, or $75 at JFK. A Platinum or Venture X holder can see the inside once. A Reserve holder goes back every week.
Airport by airport, who wins
Dallas/Fort Worth, Terminal D: all three networks are present, and Platinum wins on the numbers. The Centurion by gate D12 rates 4.9, the Capital One Lounge by D22 rates 4.7, and the Sapphire Lounge rates 4.5. The gap between first and third is real.
Denver: a two-horse race, Centurion on Concourse C at 4.8 for Platinum against Capital One on Concourse A at 4.7 for Venture X. Reserve has no proprietary lounge in the Denver data.
LaGuardia and Phoenix: Reserve edges it. The 4.8 Sapphire Lounges outscore the Centurion Lounges at both airports, which rate 4.5, and at LaGuardia the Capital One Landing rates 4.6. Platinum and Venture X holders get the Sapphire room once a year; Reserve holders get it every trip.
Honolulu: only Platinum unlocks the Delta Sky Club, a 4.9 with 5s on almost every metric, and only when you hold a same-day Delta ticket. Guests are $50 each, up to two.
Heathrow Terminal 4: Plaza Premium rates 4.9 with four showers. Platinum and Venture X both carry the Plaza Premium program; Reserve enters on Priority Pass with a two-hour cap that may be restricted at peak times.
Minneapolis: the Escape Lounge is Platinum-only as a proprietary benefit, and only on a Delta-marketed flight. Everyone else uses Priority Pass or pays from $45.
The fine print, briefly
Centurion and Capital One both tie free guests to $75,000 of annual spend. Sapphire does not. US Centurion lounges require a same-day ticket; the Delta Sky Club requires a same-day Delta ticket. Heathrow's Centurion follows UK guest rules for UK cards and home-market rules for everyone else. Venture X day passes and Capital One guest fees are stated per lounge, so check the page for the airport you are flying from.
Verdict by traveller type
If you fly solo and chase the best room, Platinum. The Centurion ceiling is highest and the Delta Sky Club access is a genuine extra, as long as the fee does not sting.
If you travel as a couple or a family, Sapphire Reserve. Two free guests, no spend hurdle, and 4.8 lounges at LGA and PHX make the maths simple.
If you want most of the experience for 44 percent of the Platinum fee, Venture X. Three 4.7-rated lounges, a 24-hour JFK room and Plaza Premium abroad is a lot for $395.
If you are weighing two of these, the head-to-head pages go deeper: Platinum vs Sapphire Reserve, Platinum vs Venture X and Venture X vs Sapphire Reserve. All ratings here are the site's own and follow the published methodology.
