Your Lounge Guest Costs $50 With Amex, $45 With Capital One—or $0 With Chase
Those prices are real for specific U.S. cards and lounges. The exceptions explain why a couple can face a very different bill from a solo traveler.

Analysis and opinion · Sources checked October 5, 2026.
“Lounge access included” sounds complete until the person traveling with you reaches the desk. Your card gets you in. Their presence produces a bill.
For an adult guest, the headline comparison is real: $50 at a U.S. Centurion Lounge with a U.S. consumer or Business Platinum account that has not unlocked complimentary guests; $45 at a Capital One Lounge with Venture X under its standard guest rules; and two included guests at a Sapphire Lounge with Chase Sapphire Reserve. These are specific benefits, not a universal price list for every lounge each bank can access.
The comparison below uses terms checked October 5, 2026. Capital One's published terms carry a July 8, 2026 update date. Treat older guest-benefit screenshots with care.
American Express: $50 for an adult guest
For American Express, U.S. Consumer Platinum and Business Platinum guest rates at U.S. Centurion Lounges are $50 for ages 18 and up and $30 for ages two through 17. Under-twos are admitted without charge with the required proof. Guests must be on the cardmember's flight. Reaching $75,000 in eligible calendar-year purchases can unlock two complimentary guests; once effective, that benefit lasts through the following calendar year and January 31 after that. Corporate and internationally issued Platinum cards have different rules, so the issuing product matters. Amex's access policy supplies the distinctions.
Capital One: $45, with another rule for Priority Pass
For Capital One, Venture X and Venture X Business guest passes at its own Lounges and Landings cost $45 for adults, $25 for ages two through 17, and nothing for under-twos. At $75,000 in qualifying calendar-year account purchases, two Lounge guests or one Landing guest can be included. Earned access lasts through the next calendar year and the following January 31. An additional cardholder needs the $125 annual lounge-access option for independent complimentary entry. Personal Venture X Priority Pass guests cost $35; Venture X Business still includes two Priority Pass guests. These are eligible-card benefits, not a $45 walk-in offer for everyone. Capital One's terms explain each category.
Chase Sapphire Reserve: two guests included
For Chase Sapphire Reserve, primary cardmembers and authorized users can bring two guests to a Sapphire Lounge without a visit fee. Additional guests cost $27. Sapphire Preferred does not provide this benefit. Entry still requires the appropriate membership or physical eligible card and a valid departing boarding pass; check the applicable arrival window. Chase's current lounge FAQ spells out the eligible products.
Children under two incur no additional charge at Sapphire lounges. And the operator's terms let it restrict or refuse admission when capacity is tight. Two included guests means a pricing entitlement, not three reserved chairs.
What a round trip costs as a couple
Now imagine two adults traveling with just one eligible primary cardholder, no independently eligible companion and no earned guest waiver. One visit makes the guest bill $50, $45 or zero across those respective lounges. Repeat it on the return trip and it becomes $100, $90 or zero. Those totals exclude annual card fees and assume both visits qualify.
That difference deserves more attention than another photograph of a cocktail. But it does not automatically make Chase the best card for every household: a lounge in an airport you never use saves you nothing.
Nor does a $75,000 threshold mean spending that money becomes sensible just to avoid guest charges. Price the visits you would actually make. Check whether your companion already has their own access. Then read the rules for the exact lounge, rather than assuming the logo on the card settles the bill.
A perk that works beautifully alone can be expensive as a couple. Banks should make that distinction as prominent as the word “included.”
