Chase Has Facials and a Whiskey Cart. Amex Can't Win on Reputation Alone
Chase's DFW lounge has both headline amenities. The more useful comparison is whether either bank can deliver a relaxing visit before boarding.

A whiskey cart makes a terrific lounge photo. A text telling you to keep waiting does not. That is the awkward position American Express faces when a competitor gives travelers something more interesting to talk about than the queue.
Chase's new Dallas Fort Worth lounge is a particularly pointed challenge. The lounge opened July 16, 2026, in Terminal D near D25. It has a dedicated whiskey room with a cart offering guided pairings and Texas selections, plus bookable Face Haus facials, rest pods and showers. Chase's DFW opening announcement lays out the details.
That is a more persuasive invitation than another promise of “premium” seating. Someone has considered what a passenger might enjoy doing with an hour, beyond hovering over a buffet.
What the amenities actually promise
Facials also appear on the Philadelphia Sapphire Lounge's official amenity list, alongside private rest pods and showers. But location matters. A feature advertised in Dallas or Philadelphia is not a promise that every Sapphire lounge has it. Before making a detour, check the actual airport page.
Here is where the easy dunk on Amex needs some honesty. Centurion is not simply a waiting room with nicer branding. Its Atlanta location advertises outdoor terraces and a craft whiskey bar of its own. Chase did not invent serving an interesting drink before a flight.
And the existence of an Amex waitlist does not tell us which network has the worse average wait. That would require comparable data across locations, times and travel periods. A great opening announcement and an irritated airport post are not that data.
Getting in is part of the product
What Amex does document is a digital check-in and waitlist system. Eligible U.S. Platinum and Delta SkyMiles Reserve members can join at participating locations through the app when a waitlist is available. A notification tells them when to return; the instructions give them ten minutes to check in. The eligibility code does not guarantee admission.
That may make waiting less irritating. It does not make the lounge bigger.
Chase has the same physical constraint. Its operator's conditions of use explicitly make entry dependent on capacity and allow admission to be restricted or refused. Amenities are subject to availability too. Getting through the door and getting a treatment slot are separate victories.
A pleasant hour beats a brochure
So judge the competition at two points: what happens at reception, and what happens once you are seated. A facial you can actually book is a meaningful extra. A whiskey cart you never reach is advertising.
For a traveler deciding between available lounges, the sensible questions are wonderfully unglamorous. How far is each from the gate? Is either admitting people now? Is there enough time to eat without watching the clock? Ask about treatment availability before mentally spending your layover in a spa.
Chase has given Amex a reason to compete harder. But the winner of your next airport visit is the lounge that can give you a usable seat and a pleasant hour. The cart is a bonus.
