The real difference

There is zero overlap between these two cards. Amex Platinum unlocks Priority Pass, Centurion Lounge, Plaza Premium, Escape Lounges, and Delta Sky Club, the last only when you are flying Delta the same day.

United Club Infinite unlocks a single network, United Club. That is a deliberate design: it is a card for United flyers, not a general-purpose lounge key. So this comparison is between a wide net and a narrow, deep one.

Where each card has the edge

Amex Platinum charges $895 annually; United Club Infinite charges $525. The Platinum's strength is breadth: it has something to offer at airports across airlines and countries, and Centurion access carries no airline condition at all. Delta flyers get a bonus through the conditional Sky Club grant.

United Club Infinite makes sense for someone anchored to a United hub who flies United on most trips. In that scenario, United Clubs are the lounges you actually pass, and the Platinum would open none of them in Lounge Frog's data. The reverse is equally true: a United loyalist who also flies internationally on partner airlines may find Priority Pass and Plaza Premium fill gaps that the United card cannot.
