Air France's La Première has won the World's Best First Class award at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards. The airline announced the result after the September 18 ceremony in London.
That is a specific industry award, rather than a guarantee that one cabin will be every traveler's favorite. For readers comparing premium trips, the useful question is how the recognition connects to the seat, the lounge and the airport service they can actually book.
What the award covers
Air France's announcement names La Première as the first-class winner. The airline also received awards for first-class lounge dining and comfort amenities.
Air France says the results came from Skytrax's passenger survey. It also placed seventh in the global airline ranking and retained the Best Airline in Western Europe title.
Keep those categories separate. Winning the first-class award is not the same as winning the overall airline ranking. Likewise, an award for lounge dining does not say that every Air France lounge offers the same service.
The suite is only part of the decision
The new La Première cabin is installed on selected Boeing 777-300ERs. Air France's San Francisco launch announcement describes four suites, each with a seat and a separate day bed that becomes a flat bed. Privacy comes from a floor-to-ceiling curtain.
That design is a useful place to start your comparison, but photos cannot answer every personal preference. Some travelers value space to move between a seat and a bed. Others put more weight on a fully enclosed door, a preferred schedule or a shorter connection.
Our advice is to decide which features matter before looking at an award badge. A strong product at an awkward departure time can still be the wrong trip.
Look at the ground experience
Air France's La Première proposition includes dedicated airport handling and its separate lounge at Paris-CDG. Our report on the redesigned La Première lounge explores that ground experience in more detail.
For a daytime departure, lounge dining may form a substantial part of the trip. For an overnight flight, the value may lie more in a smooth boarding process and getting settled quickly.
Think about the time you will actually have at the airport. An ambitious connection can leave little room to enjoy a lounge even when the ticket includes it. Building in more time may improve the experience, but only if it fits the rest of your plans.
Book the product you want
Before paying, confirm the cabin offered on your specific departure. A destination with La Première service does not mean every Air France flight to that city has the new suite.
Check the flight number, aircraft details and seat map, then keep an eye on the reservation as departure approaches. Ask the airline about the options if a particular cabin feature is central to your purchase.
Also review baggage, connection and change conditions. Those details can matter more than the headline award when a trip has several moving parts.
What the recognition tells travelers
The award gives La Première a clear point of distinction for 2026. It is a reason to take a closer look at Air France's premium product, while keeping the final choice tied to your own itinerary.
Use the recognition as context. Choose the trip for the experience you can verify, the schedule you can use and the total price you are willing to pay.
