Short answer: usually no, sometimes yes, and the exceptions are worth knowing about. Almost every lounge on this site sits airside and checks for a departing boarding pass. Land, clear immigration, and that door is closed to you. But a smaller group of lounges exists precisely for people who have just got off a plane. Some are run by airlines for their premium cabins. Some are landside and sell entry to anyone. Here is every one we could find with photos, region by region.
Why most lounges turn you away
The economics are simple. Airside lounges are built behind security, and arriving passengers walk the other way. An arrivals lounge has to be landside, near baggage reclaim, and it mostly earns nothing from duty-free foot traffic. That is why they are rare, why they cluster at big hubs, and why many of them close by early afternoon when the overnight long-haul wave has passed. Most of the airline-run ones also take no guests and sell no entry. The independent ones are the opposite: they want your money and your network card.
London, where the idea took hold
Heathrow has four, which is more than any other airport in our data. The British Airways Arrivals Lounge in Terminal 5 is the famous one, with 94 showers, a hydrotherapy zone and full English breakfast until noon. It opens 05:00-14:00 and admits arriving First and Club World passengers plus BA Club Gold on long-haul flights. No guests. It rates 3.4.
Across in Terminal 3, Virgin Atlantic's Revivals lounge runs 05:00-12:30 with twenty showers and a full bar, for Upper Class, Delta One and Flying Club Gold arrivals. No guests, no paid entry. The American Airlines Arrivals Lounge is a few steps away on Level 2, open 06:30-14:00, for same-day Flagship arrivals and top-tier AAdvantage or oneworld Emerald members, via oneworld lounge access. It has no showers and rates 3.1.
The one anyone can use is the Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 3 Arrivals, reopened in September 2025 outside the terminal near the Aerotel. Show a boarding pass from an incoming flight at any Heathrow terminal. Priority Pass gets you in, with a shower about £21 extra. Seven showers, open 06:00-14:00, rated 2.9. Its Terminal 2 sibling closed in 2020 and has not come back.
Continental Europe
Frankfurt's Lufthansa Welcome Lounge is the strongest arrivals lounge we have scored, at 4.2 overall. Twenty showers, a 5-rated breakfast coffee, open 05:15-12:30 in Terminal 1 Area B. Entry is for arriving first and business passengers and Senator or HON Circle members, and it is listed under Star Alliance Gold lounge access for long-haul arrivals only. No guests.
Zurich's SWISS Arrival Lounge is smaller, with one shower that scores a perfect 5, in the Arrival 2 hall of the Airport Centre. Open 06:00-13:00 for SWISS First and Business and Senator or HON arrivals on long-haul. It rates 3.6.
South America
Rio's Plaza Premium Lounge (Arrivals) breaks every pattern above. It is open 24 hours, landside on the second floor of the car park building, and takes Priority Pass, LoungeKey, DragonPass and Plaza Premium bookings. Two-hour cap, showers at extra cost, four of them. It rates 4.6, which is remarkable for an arrivals lounge. Fortaleza's W Premium Arrival Lounge takes DragonPass and sells walk-up day passes when space allows, though it rates only 2.0.
India and Australia
Delhi's Encalm Lounge (Arrivals) sits landside in Terminal 3 before the exit gates, open around the clock on Priority Pass with a two-hour cap and free luggage storage. Its food scores 5. Bengaluru has two: the 080 Arrival Lounge in Terminal 2 and the T1 Lounge (Kerbside) outside Terminal 1. Both are 24-hour Priority Pass lounges, both require a same-day boarding pass, and both rate poorly, at 1.6 and 1.3.
Sydney's Plaza Premium Lounge (International Arrivals) is on the ground floor at Arrivals B, entered through the Aerotel reception, open 06:00-20:00. Priority Pass works with a two-hour cap, and walk-ins and pre-booking are sold. It is not yet fully scored.
Also on the map
Johannesburg's SAA International Arrivals Lounge opens 04:30-12:30 for arriving SAA Business and Voyager elites. We have no photos and only one rated metric, so it sits outside the main list for now.
What to check before you count on one
Hours first. Six of the lounges above close between 12:30 and 14:00, so a late-afternoon arrival gets nothing. Then the entry rule: airline lounges want a premium cabin or status on that carrier, while the Plaza Premium and Priority Pass lounges want an incoming boarding pass and sometimes a same-day one. Shower charges are the usual catch at the paid lounges. Ratings follow the site methodology.
