Alaska Airlines will add a winter nonstop from Portland to the Colorado ski town of Steamboat Springs. The flights run twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays, from Feb. 11 through March 28, 2027, according to Alaska's July 23 announcement.

The flights land at Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN), in Hayden, which serves Steamboat Springs. Alaska is pitching the route at Oregon skiers and at travelers heading for the area's hot springs or a long winter weekend. Tickets are on sale at alaskaair.com.

The schedule

Both directions run on the same day, on an Embraer 175 regional jet.

Portland (PDX) – Steamboat Springs (HDN)Feb. 11 – March 28, 202710:40 a.m.2:05 p.m.2x weekly
Steamboat Springs (HDN) – Portland (PDX)Feb. 11 – March 28, 20272:45 p.m.4:35 p.m.2x weekly

The plane spends only 40 minutes on the ground in Hayden before it heads back. The season is short, at about seven weeks, and timed for the peak of the ski season.

Bringing skis

Alaska used the release to remind skiers of its gear rules. Skis or a snowboard count as one standard checked bag, as long as the gear weighs 50 pounds or less. Alaska says the gear can measure more than 62 linear inches, up to 115, with no oversize fee. One boot or helmet bag can go with it, if it holds no other gear or clothes. Alaska's first checked bag starts at $35.

Lounges in Portland

The 10:40 a.m. departure from Portland leaves plenty of time for a lounge. Lounge Frog lists four at PDX:

  • Alaska Lounge, on the mezzanine of Concourse C, across from gate C5. It opened in 2026, seats about 230 and has a full bar but no showers. Our listing shows it open 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. It takes Alaska Lounge members and eligible oneworld travelers, with day passes at about $65 when space allows. Readers rate it 3.8.
  • Escape Lounge, on Concourse D between gates D8 and D10. Priority Pass named it its Global Lounge of the Year for 2026. It takes Priority Pass and LoungeKey, and Amex Platinum and Delta SkyMiles Reserve cardholders on eligible flights, per our listing. Anyone else can pay at the door, at roughly $30 to $45. It has two showers, opens 4:30 a.m. to midnight and rates 4.4.
  • Delta Sky Club, rated 4.0, for Delta Sky Club and SkyTeam access.
  • United Club, rated 3.7, for United Club and Star Alliance access.

A Main Cabin ticket to Hayden will not open the Alaska Lounge on its own. For most travelers on this route, the easy paths are an Alaska Lounge membership, a day pass, or a Priority Pass card for the Escape Lounge. Alaska has not said which gate the flight will use.

Lounges in Steamboat Springs

Don't plan on a lounge at the Hayden end. Yampa Valley Regional is not in Lounge Frog's directory, and we have no lounge listed there. The release does not mention one either. With a 2:45 p.m. departure, most travelers will come straight from the slopes to the gate area.

What we don't know yet

Alaska has not said whether this route will return after March 2027. It also has not said whether its Horizon Air subsidiary or a partner will fly the Embraer 175. We will update this story if Alaska shares more. See all of Alaska's lounges on our Alaska Airlines page.
