Brommaflyg, the small airline based on the Swedish island of Gotland, will start flying between Visby and Malmö on March 25, 2027. The route links Gotland with Skåne, Sweden's southernmost region, without a change of planes in Stockholm.
Swedavia, the state company that runs both airports, announced the route in a release on October 13. It is Brommaflyg's third route.
The schedule
According to the release, flights will run twice a week to start, on Fridays and Sundays. That timing suits weekend trips and people who split their week between the island and the mainland. During Almedalen Week, the annual political festival held in Visby each summer, the route will run every day.
The release does not name the aircraft, give flight times or list fares. It also does not say whether the route will stay year-round or how long the twice-weekly pattern will last.
Who Brommaflyg is
Brommaflyg is a young airline. Swedavia says it was set up at the urging of local businesses on Gotland, with the goal of building better air links between the island and the mainland over the long term.
Its first flight, between Visby and Stockholm Bromma, took off in October 2025. That brought back a direct link between Gotland and Stockholm's city-center airport. In April 2026 it added a second route, from Visby to Gothenburg Landvetter. Malmö is the next step.
Brommaflyg's CEO, Henrik Svensson, said in the release that many people had asked for the route and that earlier direct flights between the two cities had been popular. Swedavia's chief commercial officer, Aron Backström, said the new link makes it easier to travel between southern Sweden and Gotland.
Why it matters
For travelers in the south of Sweden, Gotland has usually meant a long trip. The main options are a flight with a connection in Stockholm, or a drive or train to the east coast followed by a ferry. A nonstop flight from Malmö cuts that down to a short hop.
Malmö Airport sits east of the city, so the route should also be handy for people living around Lund and the rest of Skåne.
Swedavia frames the route as part of a bigger goal. The company says good domestic flights are a key part of Sweden's transport system, because they tie the regions together and help people and businesses meet. It also expects the route to help tourism and trade on both sides.
Lounges and the airport experience
Don't expect a lounge on this trip. Brommaflyg is a small regional carrier, and the release says nothing about lounge access or a loyalty program. Our directory does not list a lounge at Malmö Airport, and Visby Airport is a small regional field.
The upside is that both airports are small, so there is less ground to cover between the door and the gate. For a flight this short, a coffee near the gate will do.
If you are connecting to a longer trip, the bigger Swedish airports have more choice. Stockholm Arlanda has several, including the SAS Lounge, two Aspire lounges and the American Express Lounge by Pontus Frithiof. Stockholm Bromma, where Brommaflyg also flies, is a small city airport.
