ITA Airways is going back to Venezuela. The Italian airline says it will fly nonstop between Rome Fiumicino and Caracas from March 30, 2027. Flights will run three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, using an Airbus A330-900. ITA announced the route on October 14 and lists it among its latest press releases.

The launch comes later than first hoped. ITA's chief executive, Joerg Eberhart, had pointed to autumn 2026 for a Venezuela route. The airline now says the route follows talks with Venezuelan officials, including the country's embassy in Italy. Eberhart and Venezuela's ambassador to Italy signed a memorandum of understanding backing the link.

Why Caracas, and who it serves

Venezuela has one of the largest Italian communities outside Europe. Many Venezuelans have Italian roots, and family travel between the two countries has long filled planes. ITA says it expects the route to serve that community and to support tourism, trade and business ties.

For years, the trip between Italy and Venezuela has usually meant changing planes somewhere along the way. A nonstop from Rome removes that stop. ITA also says travelers from the rest of Italy and Europe can connect onto Caracas flights through Fiumicino, using its domestic and international network.

ITA has not published flight times, fares or a sale date in the material we could review. Check the airline's site before planning around a specific departure.

What to expect on board

The A330-900 is the backbone of ITA's long-haul fleet. The airline flies 17 of them, according to our ITA Airways page. Business class on these jets uses lie-flat seats. ITA has not said whether the Caracas aircraft will differ from the rest of the fleet.

Three flights a week is a cautious start. It gives ITA room to test demand before adding days, and it means travelers will need to plan around a fixed schedule rather than pick any day of the week.

Where to wait in Rome and Caracas

Long-haul flights at Fiumicino leave from the non-Schengen area of Terminal 3. ITA's flagship there is the Piazza di Spagna Lounge, one level above gates E11 to E24. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is one of the highest-rated lounges in our directory. ITA business class passengers get in, as do Star Alliance Gold members on same-day Star Alliance flights. ITA joined Star Alliance on April 1, 2026, after leaving SkyTeam. ITA also runs the Hangar Lounge at Fiumicino. Our Rome Fiumicino page has the full list.

The choice in Caracas is thinner. Our Caracas airport page lists one lounge in the international terminal, the Italviajes Salón VIP. It takes Priority Pass and LoungeKey members, and our ratings suggest keeping expectations modest. ITA has not said whether it will offer premium passengers a lounge of its own choosing in Caracas.

The bigger picture

Air links to Caracas have been thin for years, and the route reflects a market that airlines are only now starting to rebuild. A new nonstop from a major European carrier is a sign that some airlines see enough demand to try again. Qatar Airways is also adding Caracas, via Bogotá, as we reported in our story on its new route.

For ITA, it also adds a new South American city to a long-haul network that has grown steadily since the airline replaced Alitalia. For travelers with family or business in Venezuela, the simple news is that a one-stop trip becomes a nonstop from next spring.
