Qatar Airways is about to fly to northern South America. Its new Doha to Bogotá to Caracas route is now due to start on November 4, after a summer delay, and it will use a 777 with Qsuite.
The route
Qatar has not put out a press release on the new date that we could find, so the details here come from trade press.
Simple Flying, citing Cirium schedule data, reports that flight QR783 will link Doha, Bogotá and Caracas, with the first flight on November 4. Its listed times are:
- Depart Doha: 7:50 AM.
- Arrive Bogotá: 4:40 PM.
- Depart Bogotá: 6:25 PM.
- Arrive Caracas: 9:30 PM.
That adds up to 20 hours and 40 minutes from Doha to Caracas, by Simple Flying's count. On the way back, the flight leaves Caracas at 11:20 PM and reaches Doha at 8:25 PM the next day, a trip Simple Flying puts at 14 hours and 5 minutes.
AeroRoutes reported in August that the route will run twice a week. Its listing showed a 7:40 AM departure from Doha, ten minutes earlier than the Cirium time, so check your ticket. Panorama reported on October 4 that flights will run on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Why it was delayed
The route was first due to start on July 22. A Qatar Airways spokesperson told Simple Flying that the launch was pushed back after the earthquake in Venezuela.
AeroRoutes reported in August that reservations were closed for travel from September 2 to November 1, which lines up with the new start date.
The plane: a 777 with Qsuite
Simple Flying says Qatar will use a Boeing 777-200LR in a 272-seat layout. That plane has 42 Qsuites in business class and 230 seats in economy.
The 777-200LR is built for very long flights. Qsuite is Qatar's current business class, with doors and lie-flat beds. The airline's next version, Qsuite Next Gen, is expected in 2027, according to Qatar's CEO.
Who the route is for
Qatar told Simple Flying that the schedule is designed for connections in Doha to Australia, China, Japan, Lebanon, South Korea and the UAE.
It also comes as US airlines return to Caracas. Simple Flying reports that American Airlines went back on September 3, while United pushed its own Caracas restart to January.
Lounges at each end
In Doha, Qsuite passengers can use the Al Mourjan Business Lounge (South) or The Garden. See all Hamad International lounges.
We have not seen Qatar confirm which lounges its passengers will use in Bogotá or Caracas. Our directory lists the options at Bogotá El Dorado and Caracas. We will update this story once Qatar confirms its lounge partners.
