More sun, more seats, for one busy week
Patriots' Day week is one of the hardest times to find a seat out of Boston. Massachusetts schools take their April vacation, and the Boston Marathon fills the city. For 2027, Delta is adding more than 45 round trips and 6,000 seats from Boston Logan over the 10 days around the holiday, according to Delta's announcement. The airline says that is 15% more seats on these leisure routes than in the same period of 2026.
The busiest dates are April 16-18 and April 22-25, 2027. Those are the days the extra flights are concentrated. Delta notes that the schedule reflects its planned peak and can change.
Where the extra flights go
Most of the new capacity heads to Florida and the Southeast. Delta lists these peak schedules from Boston:
- Orlando: up to 35 flights a week, including seven more each week
- Fort Myers: up to 21 a week, including seven more each week
- Jacksonville: up to 21 a week, with one extra holiday flight
- Charleston: up to 14 a week, with five extra holiday flights
- Savannah: up to 14 a week, with five extra holiday flights
- Sarasota: up to 14 a week, with seven extra holiday flights
- Myrtle Beach: up to five a week, with three extra holiday flights
- Panama City: four extra holiday flights
- Destin-Fort Walton Beach: new service, with four holiday flights
- New Orleans: a larger plane on select holiday flights
The Caribbean and Mexico get more too:
- Aruba: up to 12 a week, including five more each week
- San Juan, Punta Cana and Cancun: up to eight a week each, with an added Saturday flight
- Nassau: up to five a week, now including Sundays
- Providenciales, Turks and Caicos: up to two a week, with an added Saturday flight
Destin is the only brand-new destination. Everything else is extra frequency or a bigger aircraft on a route Delta already flies.
How to use it
Extra seats tend to price lower than the last few seats on a sold-out week. If you know you will travel that week, book soon, before the cheapest fares on the added flights fill. Saturday departures to the Caribbean are where Delta added the most single frequencies, so compare a Saturday departure against a Friday or Sunday one.
Families should check the return date carefully. The peak periods split around the vacation week, and the second window runs through Sunday, April 25. A return on that Sunday will likely be the most crowded flight of the trip.
Where to wait in Boston
More flights from Boston also means busier lounges during that week. Delta has three Sky Clubs at Logan. On our ratings, Delta Sky Club (E) in Terminal E scores 4.6 and has five showers. Delta Sky Club (A) in Terminal A scores 4.5, and the smaller Delta Sky Club (A6) scores 4.4. Most of these leisure flights leave from Terminal A, so the A clubs are the practical choice.
Sky Club entry works the usual way. Members, eligible Amex cardholders and SkyTeam Elite Plus flyers on qualifying itineraries can get in, and Basic Economy tickets are not admitted. Expect lines at the door during school vacation week, since the clubs fill up at holiday peaks. Arrive with a backup plan, and check the Fly Delta app for any waitlist.
The bigger picture
Delta calls itself the largest airline in Boston, and this is a capacity play in a market it competes for with JetBlue. Neither change is permanent. These are seasonal adds aimed at one week in April. Still, the new Destin-Fort Walton Beach service gives Bostonians a Gulf Coast beach option without a connection for that week.
