Copenhagen is heading for a lounge contest in 2027. On September 24, SAS showed the first images of a new flagship lounge due to open next June. The scale is unusual for a European hub: 3,700 square meters, 1,095 seats and hotel rooms. Revolut and Plaza Premium Group, meanwhile, say they are building the Schengen area's largest common-use lounge at the same airport.
What SAS is building
According to the SAS press release, the lounge will occupy the fourth floor of Terminal 3. It is designed for up to 4,000 visitors a day and has about 40% more space than the current SAS lounge.
The plan splits the space into zones: Eat & Drink, Social, Family, Focus, Relax, Silent Relax and Sleep. There will also be an Exclusive Zone for what SAS calls its "most loyal top-tier customers."
Facilities listed include 24 private work pods, a bar with signature SAS cocktails, a barista and a bakery. SAS also promises private hotel rooms, more showers and restrooms, runway views and digital occupancy monitoring. Some furniture and recycled textiles from the current lounge will be reused.
Paul Verhagen, SAS's chief commercial officer, said the lounge "will be a destination of its own."
What we don't know yet
SAS has not published access rules for the new lounge. It has not said who can enter the Exclusive Zone, how many hotel rooms there are, or whether you pay for them. Future Travel Experience's coverage adds nothing beyond the press release. Until SAS says more, treat the hotel rooms as a promise, not a booking option.
Today, SAS's lounge page gives free entry to Business and domestic Premium passengers, EuroBonus Gold and Diamond members, and SkyTeam Elite Plus members on a same-day SAS flight. Economy passengers can buy entry for 299 DKK online at least three hours ahead, or 349 DKK closer to departure or at the door, subject to space. It is reasonable to expect a similar base, but SAS has not confirmed it.
The Revolut factor
Business Traveller reported in August that Revolut will open its first branded lounge in Copenhagen's Schengen zone in 2027. Plaza Premium Group is the operating and investment partner. Neither size nor opening date has been disclosed. Revolut has also not said which plans will include entry or what guests will pay.
So by late 2027, Copenhagen could have two very large new lounges, one for airline loyalty and one for a bank's premium customers.
What to use until then
- SAS and SkyTeam flyers: the current SAS Lounge in Terminal 3, opposite passport control at the C gates. Non-Schengen passengers can use it before passport control.
- Priority Pass members, Schengen: the Aspire Lounge between Piers A and B, or the Carlsberg Aviator Lounge. Both can restrict entry when full.
- Other airlines' premium passengers: the Danske Bank Aviator Business Lounge serves several contract airlines.
- Non-Schengen, no status: the refurbished Pearl Lounge at the C gates.
Our view: 1,095 seats would make this one of Europe's biggest airline lounges. The size matters less than the rules: who gets the Exclusive Zone, and whether the hotel rooms are a real benefit for top-tier flyers or a paid extra. We will update when access rules appear.
