If you connect through Zurich on Swiss, your usual lounge has only a few months left. Swiss will close its Dock A Business, Senator and Alpine lounges in the first quarter of 2027. It will move those guests to a new pair of lounges on the south side of Dock B. First Class and HON Circle guests stay where they are until 2028.

What is being built

Business Traveller reports that the new Business and Senator lounges will sit in a newly built building on the south side of Dock B. Together they cover about 2,600 square meters, which Business Traveller puts at 20% more space than the lounges they replace. The opening is set for early 2027.

Moodie Davitt says each lounge takes a full floor. Both have open layouts, lots of glass and views across the apron, the runways and the Alps. There will be about 20 fully soundproofed workstations.

The Senator lounge adds a wine humidor and a room for maturing cheese and cured meats. That is a very Swiss idea of luxury, and we are curious to see it.

Getting to your gate

The new building sits directly above the bus gates. One Mile at a Time reports that it will also connect to the Dock B part of the terminal, so you can walk to your gate. The lounges serve Schengen flights.

For anyone boarding by bus, this is a real improvement. For anyone with a contact gate at the far end of Dock A, allow more time to walk from the new lounge than you do today. We will know the real walking times once the building opens.

What closes and when

  • Q1 2027: The Swiss Business Lounge, Senator Lounge and Alpine Lounge in Dock A close once the new Dock B lounges open.
  • 2028: The Swiss First Lounge and HON Circle Lounge in Dock A move to Dock B. Swiss says more details will follow.
  • Early 2030s: Dock A, open since 1985, is replaced by a new terminal to the north. Business Traveller reports that work starts next year and that the building will be one of the largest airport docks made mostly of wood.

Swiss has not given an exact opening date for the new lounges. Until it does, expect the Dock A lounges to stay open as normal. Watch for a switchover date in the Swiss app early next year.

What frequent flyers should do

For Schengen trips in late 2026, nothing changes. The Business Lounge A, Senator Lounge A and themed Alpine Lounge are open as usual. The Alpine Lounge is the one to visit if you want a last look, since it is not listed as moving to Dock B.

Long-haul and other non-Schengen flyers are not affected by this change. The Dock E lounges and the merged Swiss Lounge D are not part of the plan.

Our view: more space, real workstations and an easier bus-gate connection are sensible upgrades for a dock that Business Traveller says has reached the end of its life cycle. The closure of the Alpine Lounge is the only real loss, as it was the most distinctive room Swiss had at the airport. We hope some of that local character makes it into the Dock B design.
