What exclusivity means

Our exclusivity score runs from 1 to 5. A 5 means the lounge admits only premium-cabin passengers, top-tier elites or invited guests. There are no day passes and no lounge networks, so no card gets you in on its own. All ten lounges here score 5 for exclusivity, and within that they are ranked by overall score. Only lounges with a photo on file are counted, and the list is frozen as published.

What changed since September

Last month's list was led by Lufthansa's Frankfurt rooms and Madrid's Sala VIP Retiro. All of them, along with São Paulo's Nubank Ultravioleta Lounge and the Air Canada Signature Suite at Vancouver, have no photo on file this month, so they sit out this edition. That opens the door for four newcomers: the ANA Suite Lounge in Haneda's Terminal 2, the SilverKris First Class Lounge at Singapore, the SWISS First Lounge at Geneva and the Thai Airways Royal First Lounge at Bangkok.

First class rules

Six of the ten are first-class lounges in the old sense: you need a first-class ticket, or an airline's highest status tier, and sometimes both. ANA's Suite Lounge at Haneda leads the table at 4.7 overall. The SWISS First Lounge in Zurich's A pier is the best-rated of SWISS's three first-class rooms, with four showers and a cocktail bar, and its smaller Geneva sibling makes the list too. Singapore Airlines' SilverKris First Class Lounge in Terminal 2 and Thai's Royal First Lounge in Bangkok complete the set.

Finnair's Platinum Wing at Helsinki is the odd one out. It is open to Finnair Plus Platinum members and oneworld Emeralds rather than to a cabin, but there is no ticket you can buy that gets you in, which is exactly what a 5 means.

Delta's two rooms

Delta's premium lounges make the list twice. The Delta One Lounge at Seattle sits second overall at 4.7, with a cocktail bar and two showers. The Delta One Lounge in Terminal 2 at Los Angeles is the smaller, temporary room Delta opened in June while it rebuilds the Sky Club next door. Both admit Delta One passengers and a few partner premium cabins, and neither takes the Amex Platinum.

The JetBlue and SWISS exceptions

JetBlue's BlueHouse in Boston scores 5 for exclusivity because entry is limited to Mint and Mint Flex passengers plus JetBlue's top cardholders. There is no day pass and no Priority Pass. Our story on the access change explains who qualifies now.

The SWISS Senator Lounge at Geneva is the one entry you might argue with. Star Alliance Gold members can use Senator lounges on a Star Alliance flight, so it is easier to reach than the first-class rooms above it. It scores 5 because there is still no paid route in, but we are reviewing that score and it may move next month.

If you cannot get in

For lounges you can buy your way into, start with the top 100, or with the October Priority Pass edition. For every way to pay for a single visit, see our day pass guide. Our scores are editorial, explained in our methodology.
