Thai AirAsia is expanding flights to Udon Thani ahead of the city's World Horticultural Expo. Its October 14 announcement lists up to six daily flights from Bangkok Don Mueang, plus four weekly flights each from Chiang Mai and Phuket.

For travelers ready to book now, a separate offer advertises up to 30% off direct Udon Thani flights through October 18, 2026. The airline also has a longer-running group promotion. The two discounts have different booking deadlines, so check which offer your reservation uses.

Three direct links and connecting options

The airline's release lists the Chiang Mai service on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Phuket flights run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. These are weekly patterns, while the Don Mueang figure is a maximum daily frequency.

That distinction matters for a weekend or a short event visit. A regional flight can remove the need to change planes in Bangkok, but four flights a week will not suit every return date. Price the outbound and inbound together before arranging a hotel.

AirAsia also lists Fly-Thru connections via Don Mueang to Krabi, Surat Thani, Singapore, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Tokyo. A connection sold through the airline should be checked as a complete itinerary. Do not assume that separately purchased flights have the same baggage handling or disruption support.

The discounts have separate clocks

The direct-flight sale is bookable through October 18 for travel through March 31, 2027. The release describes savings of up to 30%, so the largest reduction should be treated as a ceiling rather than a promise for every departure.

For groups of five or more, AirAsia advertises up to 20% off bookings made through March 15, 2027, again for travel through March 31. It provides a group contact in the announcement. Ask for the group's full written conditions, including how changes and passenger names are handled.

The release also advertises 15% off selected meals booked in advance. Compare the final basket rather than adding the percentages together. It does not establish that the flight, group and meal offers can all be combined.

Match the trip to the expo dates

AirAsia says the expo runs from November 1, 2026, to March 14, 2027, at Nong Dae Wetland. The airline is an event sponsor and plans a garden with a model aircraft as its centerpiece.

The flight offer extends beyond the expo's closing date. A March 20 ticket may fall inside the airline's stated travel window while being too late for the event itself. Keep the event dates and the fare dates separate when booking.

AirAsia estimates the site is about 15 minutes from Udon Thani Airport. Treat that as an approximate journey, with extra time for traffic and event crowds. The release does not give admission prices or a full schedule of expo activities.

Where to spend the connection

If your itinerary passes through Bangkok, use the Don Mueang airport guide to identify the right terminal. Lounge Frog lists the Miracle Lounge in international Terminal 1, Coral Executive Lounge in Terminal 1 and Miracle Lounge in domestic Terminal 2.

A domestic departure and an international connection may put you in different areas. Check the room's location and your membership's current conditions before budgeting for a lounge stop. The new flights and discounts do not themselves add lounge access.

The practical gain is more choice for reaching Udon Thani, especially from northern and southern Thailand. Choose the nonstop when its operating days fit, and use Bangkok connections when they improve the complete journey rather than simply lowering the headline fare.
