Alaska Airlines has new food in its domestic Main Cabin. The menu leans on two Seattle brands: Ellenos, known for its Greek-style yogurt, and the salad chain Evergreens. The new items can be pre-ordered for flights from Sept. 2, according to Alaska's Aug. 31 announcement.
Neither brand is new to Alaska. The airline calls its tie with Ellenos longstanding. It describes the new salad as an addition to the Evergreens dishes it already serves on board, which it says are only sold in the air on Alaska.
What's new for breakfast
The lead item is the Ellenos yogurt breakfast plate. It pairs Ellenos Marionberry yogurt with a blueberry tea loaf and fresh fruit.
Two warm breakfast sandwiches are also new. Alaska says they are on most flights over 1,100 miles. Which one you get depends on the direction you fly:
- Pretzel bun chicken sausage sandwich: egg, chicken sausage and Havarti on a pretzel bun. Offered on eastbound domestic flights and westbound flights to Hawaiʻi.
- Turkey bacon and Tillamook cheddar sandwich: egg, turkey bacon and cheddar on a brioche bun. Offered on westbound domestic flights and eastbound flights to Hawaiʻi.
Lunch and dinner
Evergreens adds a spicy kale Caesar salad. It has romaine, kale, chicken, grape tomatoes, fresh jalapeños, parmesan and sunflower seeds. Neil Harfert, chief executive of Evergreens, said the partnership lets the company offer "fresh, flavorful options that accommodate a variety of dietary preferences."
Three more dishes join the menu:
- Warm tamari tofu bowl: stir-fried vegetables over basmati rice. It is plant-based and made without gluten ingredients.
- Green curry with chicken: served over jasmine rice. Alaska says it is offered only on flights from Hawaiʻi.
- Chicken salad croissant: lemon parsley chicken salad, served with apple slices and grapes.
Alaska did not list prices for any of the new items. It also did not say which dishes they replace.
How to pre-order
Pre-orders are made in the Alaska Hawaiian app. They open 14 days before your flight and close about 20 hours before takeoff. Alaska says flights over 1,100 miles have at least one hot meal to pre-order. If you skip the pre-order, the release does not say which items will be sold on board.
Eating before you board
If you would rather eat on the ground, the lounge is the other option. At Alaska's Seattle hub, Lounge Frog readers rate the food well. The Alaska Lounge (N) in the North Satellite scores 5 out of 5 for food and 4.7 overall. The Alaska Lounge (C) and Alaska Lounge (D) both score 4 for food. All three are open to Alaska Lounge members and eligible oneworld travelers, and our listings show $65 day passes when space allows.
Outside Seattle, Alaska's lounges rate lower overall in our data. The range runs from 3.2 at New York JFK to 3.8 at Portland and Los Angeles.
Alaska plans to go further in Seattle. Its new C Concourse lounge, due in late 2027, is set to have a pizza oven, a coffee lab and seasonal menus. See our story on Aurora, Leihōkū and Alaska's new lounges.
