Amex Platinum's $600 hotel credit now covers Airbnb Luxe, with a Jan. 2027 catch

U.S. Platinum Cards can use the renamed Lodging Credit on prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of two nights or more. Fine Hotels + Resorts needs two nights starting Jan. 1, 2027.

American Express just gave Platinum Card holders a new way to spend the annual lodging credit: on Airbnb Luxe homes, not only hotels. The change is live as of Oct. 22, and it comes with a catch for Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings that starts on Jan. 1, 2027.

According to Amex and Airbnb's joint release and Amex's own Lodging Credit page, U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members can now put prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of two nights or more toward the annual $600 Lodging Credit. That benefit was previously called the $600 Hotel Credit. It still pays up to $300 in statement credits in each half of the calendar year.

What changed for Platinum Card holders

Eligible Card Members can browse more than one million Airbnb listings on AmexTravel.com or in the Amex Travel App, then connect their Amex and Airbnb accounts to book. After booking, you manage the stay on Airbnb: messages to the host, changes, cancellations and support all sit there. Amex Travel still shows the trip.

The earning rates Amex lists for prepaid Airbnb bookings made through Amex Travel are:

  • Consumer and Business Platinum: 5X Membership Rewards points
  • Consumer Classic Green: 3X on travel, including bookings made directly with Airbnb
  • Other eligible Membership Rewards cards: 2X

Only Airbnb Luxe homes count toward the $600 Lodging Credit. Regular Airbnb stays can still earn points when booked through Amex Travel, but they do not pull from the lodging credit.

The new $250 Experiences credit

There is a second Platinum perk. After you book a prepaid Airbnb Luxe stay through Amex Travel, you unlock up to $250 in statement credits that calendar year on eligible Airbnb Experiences bought directly with Airbnb. Amex says Experiences that send you to a third-party partner site to pay do not count.

You do not enroll for the Lodging Credit. Credits can take up to 90 days to post. On your statement they may appear as "LUXE AIRBNB" with "Amex Hotel Credit" in the description, or as the familiar Fine Hotels or Hotel Collection lines for hotel bookings.

The Jan. 1, 2027 Fine Hotels rule you should not miss

Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe bookings already need a two-night minimum for the credit. Fine Hotels + Resorts stays do not, until Jan. 1, 2027. From that date, FHR bookings also need two consecutive nights to qualify. One-night FHR trips booked under the new rule will not earn the lodging credit under the terms Amex posts today.

Eligible hotel bookings still include Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection when you book through Amex Travel or by calling the number on the card. Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card Members are not eligible for the Lodging Credit.

What this means if you hold the Platinum Card for lounges

The Platinum Card still opens Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass, Plaza Premium, Escape Lounges and limited Delta Sky Club visits. That lounge stack did not change with this deal. What changed is how you can use a core travel credit that many cardholders already budget for hotels.

If you often book villas or large homes for family trips, Airbnb Luxe through Amex Travel may finally make the lodging credit useful on those stays. If you mostly book one-night FHR stopovers, mark Jan. 1, 2027 on your calendar. After that date, a single night at a Fine Hotels property no longer feeds the credit.

Terms apply, and Amex can reverse credits if a booking is canceled or modified. Check the Lodging Credit page before you book.
