How Pearson's terminals shape the choice
Toronto Pearson has two terminals, and they sort lounges in a way that trips up a lot of visitors. Terminal 1 is Air Canada and its Star Alliance partners. Terminal 3 is everyone else. Each terminal then splits into three airside zones: domestic, international, and US transborder behind US preclearance. Once you clear into one zone you cannot walk to a lounge in another. So a Maple Leaf Lounge rated 4.6 is useless if your flight to Chicago puts you in the transborder zone.
That is why this list reads almost like three lists. The top rooms are in the international zones of both terminals. The domestic lounges are a step behind. The transborder rooms, where US preclearance eats time and space, trail the field. Two well-known lounges are shut right now: the Air Canada Signature Suite in Terminal 1, closed until December for expansion, and the Terminal 1 international Plaza Premium Lounge. We cover the Signature Suite closure in this news story. For the airline's full network, see our ranking of every Maple Leaf Lounge.
1. Plaza Premium Lounge (T3 International)
The Plaza Premium Lounge (T3 International) tops the airport at 4.7. It is upstairs from gate C32 in the Terminal 3 international zone, reached by an elevator from the concourse. It holds about 200 people, has a full bar and two showers, and scored five for coffee, crowding, quiet, seating, service, showers, views, Wi-Fi and workspace. Priority Pass, LoungeKey and DragonPass get you in, walk-up entry is sold by the hour, and Cathay Pacific uses it as its Toronto lounge. Hours are not published, so confirm before a very early flight.
2. Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (International)
The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (International) rates 4.6 on the upper level of Terminal 1's international area toward Pier F. It has six showers, a full bar and seating for 300. Food, drinks, quiet, seating, views and workspace all scored five. Business class passengers enter alone. Aeroplan 50K and above and Star Alliance Gold members bring one guest on a same-day Star Alliance flight.
3. Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (Domestic)
The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (Domestic) scores 4.5 in the Terminal 1 domestic concourse by the D gates, up from the departures level. It opens from 05:00 to midnight, holds 300 and has four showers and a full bar. Cleanliness, quiet, restrooms, seating and views all earned five. Access rules match the international lounge.
4. Plaza Premium Lounge (Domestic)
The Terminal 1 Plaza Premium Lounge (Domestic) rates 4.2 and sits on level 3 just past domestic security. It has a full bar but no showers, with 150 seats. Coffee, drinks, food, seating and Wi-Fi scored five, while cleanliness, power and workspace came in at three. The usual three card networks are accepted and walk-up entry is sold by the hour.
5. Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (Transborder)
The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge (Transborder) is the best room after US preclearance, at 4.1. It is on level 4 at Node F in Terminal 1 and holds 150, with a full bar and no showers. Crowding, drinks, power, restrooms, service, views and workspace scored five. Cleanliness, coffee, quiet and Wi-Fi scored three, which is what keeps it out of the top tier.
6. American Airlines Admirals Club
The American Airlines Admirals Club rates 4.0 and sits on the transfer level of Concourse A in Terminal 3, past US preclearance. It is compact at 100 seats, with a full bar and no showers, and closes at 20:00 most nights. Members bring family or two guests, and oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members get in on status. Day passes need a same-day American or oneworld ticket. Cleanliness, coffee, service and views scored five.
7. Plaza Premium Lounge (US Transborder)
The Terminal 1 Plaza Premium Lounge (US Transborder) rates 3.9 near gates F53 to F55, open 05:30 to 21:00. It holds 120 with a full bar and no showers. Cleanliness, coffee, crowding, power, service and views scored five, but food, quiet, restrooms and seating scored three. It is the Priority Pass option in that zone, and it does the job.
8. Plaza Premium Lounge (T3 Domestic)
The small Plaza Premium Lounge (T3 Domestic) rounds out the list at 3.7. It is near gates B22 to B24 in Terminal 3, open 05:30 to 22:00, with 90 seats and a full bar. Cleanliness, views and Wi-Fi scored five. Crowding, food, quiet and restrooms scored three. Card rules match the other Plaza Premium rooms.
