Lufthansa is adding two Japan routes from Frankfurt for summer 2027, both on its newest Boeing 787-9s with Allegris cabins. The airline will bring back Frankfurt to Nagoya three times a week, and it will add a daily Frankfurt to Tokyo-Narita flight. Both run on a seasonal basis, and Lufthansa says they are on sale now.
The news came in Lufthansa Group's release of Oct. 6. SWISS is adding Japan flights too.
The new flights
Frankfurt to Nagoya. This route returns for the summer 2027 season. Lufthansa says it will fly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from March 29, 2027. The schedule:
- LH736 leaves Frankfurt at 2:10 p.m. and lands in Nagoya at 9:35 a.m. the next day
- LH737 leaves Nagoya at 11:30 a.m. and lands in Frankfurt at 6:30 p.m. the same day
Frankfurt to Tokyo-Narita. This daily flight starts March 28, 2027. The schedule:
- LH710 leaves Frankfurt at 1:45 p.m. and lands at Narita at 9:30 a.m. the next day
- LH711 leaves Narita at 11:20 a.m. and lands in Frankfurt at 6:40 p.m.
Lufthansa will keep its daily flights from both Frankfurt and Munich to Tokyo-Haneda. So Tokyo travelers will have a choice of two airports from Frankfurt next summer.
SWISS, part of the same group, plans up to seven weekly flights from Zurich to Narita in summer 2027. Across Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and ITA Airways, the group will serve four Japanese airports: Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya. The group says demand to Japan has grown strongly.
What you get on board
The cabin is the part that matters most for premium travelers. Lufthansa says both routes will use the 787-9 in its latest Allegris layout. That plane has 28 seats in Business Class, 28 in Premium Economy and 231 in Economy. There is no First Class cabin on this aircraft.
Allegris is Lufthansa's new long-haul product, and it is still being rolled out. Plenty of Lufthansa long-haul flights still use older business seats. A route that is confirmed for Allegris from day one is a plus when you are choosing between options to Japan.
Lounges at each end
Lounge access on these flights follows Lufthansa's usual rules. Business Class travelers and Star Alliance Gold members can use Lufthansa's business lounges. Senators and HON Circle members get the higher-tier lounges.
In Frankfurt, flights to Japan leave from the non-Schengen areas of Terminal 1. Our readers rate the Lufthansa Business Lounge (Z) and the Lufthansa Senator Lounge (Z) highly, and both have six showers. The Lufthansa Business Lounge (B) is one of the best rated in our Frankfurt guide. Lufthansa has not said which gates the Japan flights will use.
At Narita, Lufthansa flies from Terminal 1 with its Star Alliance partners. Eligible flyers can use the ANA Lounge (T1, satellite 2) or the United Club, which our readers score 4.8 out of 5. The ANA Suite Lounge is kept for first class and top-tier members.
Nagoya is the gap. Our Chubu Centrair page does not yet list an international lounge. Lufthansa's release does not say which lounge its Nagoya passengers will use. We will add it when Lufthansa or the airport confirms.
Why it matters
Lufthansa and ANA run a joint venture on flights between Europe and Japan. The release points to ANA flights as more ways to book. That makes Frankfurt and Munich useful transfer points for travelers from across Europe heading to Japan, and the reverse.
For travelers in Nagoya and central Japan, the return of a direct Frankfurt flight cuts out a trip to Tokyo or Osaka to reach Europe. The flight also lands in Frankfurt in the early evening, in time for onward connections.
