Thirty-seven lounges opened in 2026 and we have already counted them in the openings roundup. This piece looks the other way. It covers the rooms that are promised but not yet pouring: new builds still behind hoarding, flagship lounges shut for a rebuild, and temporary rooms standing in for permanent ones. Every date below comes from the lounge's own directory record, and we say plainly where a date is a target rather than a fact.
How to read the pipeline
The photographed lounges in the list are the ones you can already picture, because they existed before the builders moved in. Their ratings describe the old room, not the one coming back, so treat the scores as a memory. Lounges without photos are covered in the text only. A few have no reopening date at all. We list them anyway, because knowing a lounge is closed is useful before you build a connection around it.
Due before the end of 2026
Brussels is the nearest finish line. THE LOFT in Pier A has been closed for a full renovation since January 2026, and its record says reopening is expected in November 2026. Star Alliance Gold members and Brussels Airlines business passengers use the Pop-up LOFT and the Sunrise Lounge in the meantime. The Lufthansa Group has already pushed this date once, so check before you count on it.
Brisbane follows a month later. The Plaza Premium Lounge in the International Terminal closed on 15 September 2026 for refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen on 1 December 2026. It scored 4.3 before closing and takes Priority Pass, LoungeKey and DragonPass, so its absence hits a lot of cardholders at once.
Two New York area projects carry a 2026 label without a month. The Centurion Lounge at Newark is under construction airside in the new Terminal A. American Express still lists it as expected to open in 2026, and it was not open as of September 2026. At JFK, Provisions by Admirals Club is due in Terminal 8 between gates B12 and B14 by the end of the year. It is a grab-and-go concept rather than a full club. Neither has photos yet, which tells you how real they are so far.
Houston is in the same bucket. The United Club in Terminal B has been closed since January 2025 for a rebuild that United says will produce the largest United Club in its network. The record expects reopening in 2026 but gives no month. Until then, United Club Fly near gates B12 to B20 or the Terminal C clubs via the Skyway are your options.
Washington Dulles has two Lufthansa rooms in limbo. The Business Lounge and the Senator Lounge on Concourse B are both closed for a renovation expected to last through the end of 2026. Lufthansa premium passengers are sent to the Turkish Airlines Lounge at B43 and the United Polaris Lounge at C17 for now.
Pencilled in for 2027
Los Angeles has the biggest single promise. Delta's Terminal 2 Sky Club closed in 2024, and the record says a rebuilt 11,000-square-foot club is scheduled to open in the second half of 2027. The photos in our listing show the pre-renovation room. Across the field, San Francisco's permanent Centurion Lounge on the Terminal 3 mezzanine is closed for the Terminal 3 West Modernization Project with reopening expected in 2027. A temporary Centurion operates airside in Terminal 2 near gate D12, and it rates 4.7, so you lose little in the meantime.
London Heathrow's Etihad Lounge in Terminal 4 closed on 1 September 2026 for a major refurbishment in Etihad's new Beyond Borders design. Reopening is expected in summer 2027. Most Etihad premium passengers use the Gulf Air Falcon Gold lounge during the closure. In Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific's The Wing Business is shut for refurbishment with reopening planned for 2027. It rated 4.9 before closing, the highest score of anything on this page, so that one is worth waiting for.
Closed with no date yet
Some records say closed and nothing more. The Admirals Club on Concourse D at Washington National is being expanded to more than 10,000 square feet with about half again as much seating, and American has not announced a reopening date. The Concourse C and E clubs remain open.
At LAX, two closures have no end date in the directory. The Admirals Club in Terminal 5 is closed because the whole terminal is being reconstructed, and American runs a temporary club near gate 151 in the Tom Bradley terminal instead. The Qantas First Lounge has been closed since late June 2026 after flooding. Qantas said the closure could last up to two months, which has already passed, and its website still lists the lounge as temporarily closed. First and Platinum customers get a dedicated dining area in the adjacent Qantas business lounge.
Montreal is the newest entry. The National Bank Lounge at Trudeau closes on 4 October 2026 for renovation, with a temporary lounge opening on 5 October. No reopening date is recorded. Given its current 2.7 rating, a rebuild is probably good news. Melbourne's Aspire Lounge is also operating from a temporary location on Level 1 while its former room is closed for relocation, again with no date.
What this list is not
Terminal-scale projects are outside its scope. JFK's new Terminal One is not due until early 2027, and no lounge inside it has a record yet. Ho Chi Minh City's Terminal 3 has already opened with the SH Premium Lounge inside it, so that one is a done deal, not a pending one. Scores here are our editorial ratings from 1 to 5 under our methodology. When a lounge in this piece reopens, it moves to the openings roundup and the rating starts again.
