oneworld lounge guests: check both boarding passes before inviting someone
Sapphire and Emerald guest rights depend on the guest’s eligible oneworld flight too. A companion’s itinerary needs its own check.

oneworld says Sapphire and Emerald members may invite one guest into an eligible lounge. The guest must also travel on a flight both marketed and operated by a oneworld carrier. The member's tier is therefore only one part of the admission check.
Before inviting a companion, read both boarding passes and identify the airlines behind each flight. A familiar flight number, a shared destination or a plan to meet at the airport does not by itself establish the guest's eligibility.
Identify the access route
Confirm that the member's access comes from eligible Sapphire or Emerald status and travel under the alliance policy. Paid lounge memberships and cabin-based access can have different conditions. Do not mix their guest rules into a single informal allowance.
Use our alliance-comparison guide and the paid-membership comparison to see why the credential matters. The current oneworld policy governs a oneworld status-based invitation, while another membership has its own terms.
Read the operating airline as well as the flight number
A codeshare can show one airline's number while another operates the plane. Look for the operated-by line in the booking details. Check that both the marketing and operating airlines meet the policy for the member and proposed guest.
Our American directory, British Airways directory and Qantas directory help explore different carriers. They are starting points for the airport plan, not a substitute for the airlines shown on the actual reservation.
Points Frog's operating-airline checklist provides the same useful reading habit for a reward ticket. Paying with miles does not remove the need to identify who flies the plane.
Check the room’s exclusions
oneworld's policy excludes arrivals lounges, spas and preflight dining facilities, and identifies additional exceptions. It also says Sapphire access does not include Qantas Domestic Business Lounges. A lounge with an appealing name is not necessarily a room the status credential opens.
Use the Sydney airport directory and the Heathrow directory to find facilities in the appropriate location. Read the current operator and alliance conditions for the specific room before choosing where to meet.
Our Qantas dress guide adds another separate door condition to check. The premium-economy guide helps prevent a cabin label from being treated as a universal lounge pass.
Agree on a backup before arrival
If the companion's flight does not meet the guest condition, compare another valid credential, a confirmed paid-entry option where offered, or a place to meet outside the lounge. Do not make the companion depend on an invitation that remains uncertain.
Check the walk to each traveler's gate and leave time for different boarding deadlines. Our gate-change guide helps keep the route back to the flight visible. Meeting at one airport does not mean two passengers have the same departure schedule.
Keep the group plan simple
Bring the boarding passes and membership evidence requested by the operator. Ask about any ambiguity before the planned visit, then follow the desk's current instructions. Capacity restrictions can also affect an otherwise eligible visit, so retain a practical waiting option.
Use Cruise Frog’s port directory if the flights feed a sailing. A useful invitation fits the policy, the exact room and both passengers' travel plans. Checking the guest's ticket early is easier than discovering a mismatch at the lounge door.
