Plaza Premium Group has opened its first lounges in Thailand, and it has put two of them side by side. On Concourse G at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, travellers can now choose between a mainstream Plaza Premium Lounge and a Plaza Premium First, the company's tenth lounge under that premium brand. Both sit on the third floor near Gate G1 and are open 24 hours. Business Traveller · Mainly Miles
Reports differ slightly on the opening date. Mainly Miles puts it at August 28, and Moodie Davitt gives September 2. Either way, both lounges are now open.
Two lounges, two price points
Plaza Premium Lounge is the larger of the two at 578 sq m, with room for 98 guests. It focuses on regional Thai food, with live cooking stations, and has separate zones for solo travellers, families and business passengers, plus showers. Walk-in entry is THB 1,750 for up to two hours or THB 2,450 for up to five. Moodie Davitt · Business Traveller
Plaza Premium First is smaller at 212 sq m and 51 guests, with à la carte dining, an AeroBar for cocktails and spirits, shower suites, quiet zones and concierge service. It costs THB 2,400 for two hours or THB 3,100 for five. Business Traveller
Both lounges are open to anyone regardless of airline or class of travel, as they are pay-per-use lounges. Group founder and CEO Song Hoi See called Bangkok "a critical hub in Southeast Asia". Moodie Davitt
Priority Pass: yes for one, no for the other
When Business Traveller reported the opening on September 3, the core lounge was not yet on Priority Pass's website. That has changed. Today, Priority Pass's Suvarnabhumi page lists a Plaza Premium Lounge in International Concourse G, open around the clock. Mainly Miles reports that Priority Pass and DragonPass visits are capped at two hours, and that Plaza Premium First is not available through third-party programmes.
If you hold Priority Pass through a credit card, the core lounge is likely to become the default card lounge on Concourse G. That brings the familiar risk: a well-reviewed, 24-hour Priority Pass lounge at a busy hub can fill up quickly in the late-evening long-haul bank.
Check your gate before you walk over
Suvarnabhumi is a sprawling terminal, and the Concourse G location suits some passengers far better than others. Mainly Miles warns that it is a poor choice for departures from Concourses A, B and C, and from the new satellite gates, which it says can take 20 to 25 minutes to reach. Mainly Miles
Practical options:
- Departing from G or nearby: the new lounges are the obvious pick. The Miracle Business Class Lounge on the same concourse is the older Priority Pass alternative if Plaza Premium is full.
- Departing from C or D: stay closer to your gate. The Coral Lounge on Concourse C is a Priority Pass option with a staffed bar.
- Flying business or first class: check whether your airline has its own lounge or a contract lounge before you pay for entry.
Our take
This is a welcome addition. Bangkok's Priority Pass lounges have long been a mixed lot, and a 24-hour lounge with live cooking from a large operator raises the standard. Plaza Premium First at THB 2,400 is harder to judge. It looks aimed at travellers who are not flying premium but want that experience before a long flight, and its value will depend on the food and service. We will report back once we have visited both.
