Qatar Airways now has free Starlink Wi-Fi on 150 widebody jets
Every Qatar Airways 777, A350 and 787-8 now has free Starlink Wi-Fi, and 787-9s are next. How to connect, and which planes still lack it.

Free Starlink Wi-Fi is now on 150 Qatar Airways widebody jets. The newest are Boeing 787-9s, and Qatar Airways says it is the first airline in the world to fly that model with Starlink. If you are booked on a Qatar Airways long-haul flight, the odds that you get fast, free Wi-Fi from the gate onward are now high, and they will keep rising through the end of 2026.
The airline shared the update in its August 20, 2026 announcement.
Which planes have it
Qatar Airways has now finished three parts of its fleet. Every Boeing 777 has Starlink, a job the airline says took nine months. Every Airbus A350 has it too, which took eight months. The latest to be finished is the Boeing 787-8, done in seven months.
The Boeing 787-9 is the work in progress. The first ones are flying with Starlink now. The airline says more than half of its 787 fleet is equipped, and that the rest of the 787s should be done by the end of 2026.
Taken together, Qatar Airways says the widebody program is more than 83% complete. It runs up to 323 Starlink flights a day on long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes across six continents.
The release does not list which routes the 787-9s fly. It also notes that aircraft assignments can change when the airline needs to swap planes. So a flight scheduled on an equipped jet could, on a given day, end up on one that is not.
How to connect, and what it costs
The Wi-Fi is free. Qatar Airways calls it complimentary and does not set a price, a time limit or a data cap in the release.
To get online, you sign in with your Privilege Club account, the airline's loyalty program. If you are not a member, you can enroll to get access. Membership in Privilege Club is free, so the only cost is a few minutes of sign-up. It is worth doing at home before you fly, with your password saved, rather than at 35,000 feet.
The release does not limit the service by cabin. It speaks of passengers in general, not just those in business class or Qsuite.
Qatar Airways says the service runs gate to gate. That means you can use it on the ground at the gate and during taxi, not only once the plane is at cruise height. There is a catch: at some airports, local rules may block gate-to-gate use. The airline does not name those airports.
Speeds go up to 500 Mbps, according to the airline. That is fast enough for video calls and streaming, though real speeds on a full flight will vary. Since October 2024, Qatar Airways says, more than 23 million passengers have connected on more than 86,000 Starlink flights.
What is still left
The clear gap is the rest of the Boeing 787 fleet, mostly the 787-9s, which the airline aims to finish by the end of 2026.
The release is silent on the rest of the fleet. It does not mention the Airbus A380s, and it says nothing about Qatar Airways' single-aisle jets, such as the Airbus A320 family used on many shorter Gulf and regional routes. If you fly those planes, do not count on Starlink until the airline says more.
The figures in the release's own text and its "About Qatar Airways" section also differ a little. The boilerplate cites more than 25 million connected passengers and up to 340 daily Starlink flights. We have used the figures from the body of the release.
What it means in Doha
For most travelers, the trip with Qatar Airways runs through Hamad International Airport in Doha. Business class passengers and top-tier oneworld elites can wait in the Al Mourjan Business Lounge (South) or the larger Al Mourjan Business Lounge (The Garden). First class guests use the Al Safwa First Lounge.
Until now, a long connection in one of those lounges was often the best chance to get real work done. With gate-to-gate Starlink on more jets, you can keep working once you board, too.
How it compares
Qatar Airways is not alone in going free and fast. The Lufthansa Group plans free Starlink Wi-Fi on all 850 of its planes by 2029. KLM will make Wi-Fi free on long-haul flights from mid-2027, also with Starlink. And American Airlines says it will put Starlink on every mainline jet.
What sets Qatar Airways apart is pace. Its 777, A350 and 787-8 fleets are already done, while several of its rivals are still talking about dates years away. For more on the airline's plans this season, see our look at Qatar Airways' winter 2026 network.
